Delicious

Very intriguing stories and I loved the narrator. Her voice and accent set the mood.

Bizarre reading

What did you like most about Great Classic Crime Stories?

Great stories

What did you like best about this story?

Variety, scene and setting.

How could the performance have been better?

What on earth is Cathy trying to do? Is she attempting to recreate prewar cockney? If so, she tends to sound more like someone with a severe case of flu. I am sure she can read well, I don't want to be destructive or negative, but the golden rule in every form of art is *avoid affectation*.

Great stories, terrible narrator

Would you listen to Great Classic Crime Stories again? Why?

I would love to listen to them, but not with this narrator. I love short stories, but am appalled to discover that the majority of the Audible short stories are narrated by this dreadful reader. I was unable to get very far, although I have gone back to this 3 or 4 times, because each time I am defeated by the quality of the reading.

How could the performance have been better?

Anyone else reading it. What does Cathy Dobson think she is doing? It sounds each time as though it is the first time she has ever seen the sentences, and she has no idea whether she should sound amused, horrified or simply bored. She has a harsh voice, which makes it difficult in any event, but she also puts pauses in extraordinary places. The problem is that her reading gets between the listener and the story.

Stories from a bygone era.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A different narrator; this lady's rasping voice makes this unpleasant listening. I also think a variety of narrators would have made this more enjoyable. The choice was my fault entirely. I recognised the names of most of the authors but I had forgotten how outdated and wordy our language used to be. The stories now of course at times seem very old fashioned, like watching black and white grainy films.I now appreciate the phrase 'plain English'. I am really struggling to get through the first half of this download.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Great disappointment

Any additional comments?

I'm sorry to be so negative, I'm sure other listeners will appreciate them more fully.
