Generally good and a few great

The narrators were all great. The stories I really liked were ‘A Slip Under The Microscope’, ‘The New Accelerator’ and ‘Under the knife’, but there were quite a few good ones in here. Definitely recommend.

H.G. rocks as usual!

With every new story I read, I'm becoming bigger and bigger fan of H.G. Wells. There's nobody quite like him! The astonishing scope of topics, the Dickensian, superbly observed characters, the humor, and the incredible scientific curiosity! All stories in this volume are good, some more than others, and some are outstanding and I would have loved them develop into a full length novel. Mainly the accelerator one, which reminded me of my favourite The First Men in the Moon- that would have been such fun! And then the one about the guy losing weight- that's so well written ... I kept roaring out loud with laughter! The narration is a mixed bag. Most is really good but some are a little irritating.

Some of the lesser-known short stories.

This is a small selection of short stories by the famed writer of science fiction, although these are not all sci-fi in subject matter. They are all decently read by narrators that I’d not come across before. I’d only come across, perhaps, one of these stories before, although the final one here seemed quite similar to one of Olaf Stapledon’s classic stories (Star Maker, possibly, I don’t recall the title).
I’m a fan of short stories, so enjoyed listening to them. At some point I shall download more of the eminent Mr Wells’ short stories that might have some of his better known tales amongst them.

A Dismal collection

There are no laughs here. No smiles. No satisfaction of a neat but unexpected ending. It is almost unrelenting misery. Stick to Wells' better known works if you are looking for that sort of thing.
