About this listen
What if Elizabeth is not a Bennet by birth, but by marriage?
When Netherfield Park is let at last, the village of Meryton is inveigled in romance, intrigue, and a few less-than-happy reunions. The Bingley siblings return to the home of their youth, an estate purchased just before the death of their father. The neighborhood, especially the Bennet family, is ready to welcome them back with open arms, but Mr. Bingley’s attempt to make a good impression on his community backfires so badly that it is his awkward friend Mr. Darcy who is obliged to salvage the situation in the aftermath of Mr. Bingley insulting Jane Bennet at the Assembly.
Young widow Elizabeth Bennet begins her acquaintance with Mr. Darcy on amiable terms, but the reckless folly of his friend and the regrets from her own past create a bumpy path to Happily Ever After for them.
Not long after an injury obliges Elizabeth to recover at Netherfield Park, her estranged sister finally discovers Elizabeth’s whereabouts, and journeys from Highbury to Meryton in all haste, suitors in tow.
When one unexpected betrothal arises out of necessity, Jane Austen’s most notorious matchmaker is inspired to work her magic at Longbourn, Netherfield, and Lucas Lodge - but she, too, will have met her match in matters of meddling & mischief….

Entertaining and original crossover variation
I wasn't sure about starting this book as it was a Pride & Prejudice/Emma crossover and I've never been keen on Emma Woodhouse. However, I've enjoyed other books by this author so I gave it a go. I'm so glad I did, as this is a very entertaining romp with some original twists. Emma, who can be pretty insufferable, is soon cut down to size by her encounters with the lively Bennets and the teasing Colonel Fitzwilliam. Charlotte Lucas triumphs and Caroline Bingley gets her just desserts. Pretty good narration too. I recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this audiobook in return for a review.

A lot of story in terms of both length and complexity
A lively way of telling the story and a few intertwined plots kept things interesting.
A few times I was a little confused and there were multiple instances of the wrong name being used, but it was a rollicking adventure and fairly easy to hear as an audiobook.

The Emma Show ❣️
The story quickly became the Emma show, one of my least favourite JA characters. I feel Emma becoming a central character took too much from what could have been an original storyline and the great story of P&P.

P&P meets Emma - what a mashup!
Can you imagine Elizabeth Bennet and Emma Woodhouse being sisters? That’s the starting premise here. Elizabeth, at odds with Mr. Woodhouse, elopes with a non-canon Bennet son at a very young age. He dies off page before the book opens and Elizabeth is a widow with a young son, thereby breaking the Longbourn entail. Most of the usual suspects from both books turn up here. The Bingleys and Darcy arrive at Netherfield, which the Bingley own in this, not lease. Bingley is the one who causes insult locally, having been away for a long time. Darcy and Elizabeth have their expected misunderstandings but over different subjects. Then up pops Emma! Oh I wanted to smack her about the head, as I usually do. Other characters from both canon novels turn out to be related; Darcy and Knightley, Bingley and Elton. Colonel Fitzwilliam gives Emma as good as he gets.
Yes, it’s a relatively long listen but worth investing the time in on the whole. Ms. Bamber is rapidly becoming the “Queen of the Mashups” and Ms. Smith’s performance is really rather good.
I received a copy of this audiobook from the narrator in the hope of a review and this is my honest opinion of it.
