Summary

After a SWAT team smashed down stock-market millionaire Shaun Attwood's door, he found himself inside of Arizona's deadliest jail and locked into a brutal struggle for survival.

Shaun's hope of living the American Dream turned into a nightmare of violence and chaos, when he had a run-in with Sammy the Bull Gravano, an Italian Mafia mass murderer.

In jail, Shaun was forced to endure cockroaches crawling in his ears at night, dead rats in the food and the sound of skulls getting cracked against toilets. He meticulously documented the conditions and smuggled out his message.

Join Shaun on a harrowing voyage into the darkest recesses of human existence.

Hard Time provides a revealing glimpse into the tragedy, brutality, dark comedy, and eccentricity of prison life.

Could hardly put it down

A very well written book that describes a mans time in Jail in some truly horrible conditions. I am a big fan of the "Banged up abroad" series and this has definitely been one of the better ones. Regardless of what you think about a persons crimes or whether they deserve to find themselves in the situation they are in, listening to how they manage and overcome the hardships of prison can be insightful and sometimes even inspiring.

Great book

Interesting listen but why did they not choose an English narrator?! Stupid not to. Other than that it’s a great story and insight into American prisons

Amazing insight

I bought this upon reader reviews and wasn't disappointed at all, Sean gives a disturbing but clear vision of life in prison, at no point does he attempt to shift blame it justify the reason he's in prison but describes how he adapts and comes to terms with his new life and the people he meets. I also enjoyed the narration and couldn't stop listening to find out what happens next.
I can't wait for the next instalment.

The battle of la cucaracha

Epic depiction of one mans long standing battle with cockroaches, and moments of snort out your coffee hilarity.

Loved it

Started listening to this book on a 7 hour car journey from Edinburgh with a mate. Both hooked from the first chapter. Very entertaining throughout!

Distracting narration

It’s interesting and well written, one learns about the American judicial system and a lot about why the law can be an ass. But, and it’s a big but, much is made of the fact that the protagonist is an English man and yet this book, written in the first person by a man who constantly refers to himself as “English Shaun” is read by an American. It is so irritating.

Amazing audio book

This audio book had me gripped from start to finish. I couldn't stop listening to it; in the car, with headphones and before bed.

Shaun takes you deep into a world which most people will never experience...Joe Arpaio's jail system in Arizona.
The book gives a great insight of what Shaun went through, from just before his arrest, to his sentencing. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys non-fiction.

I thought the narrator did a good job, although it would have been better if Shaun narrated.

I finished 'Hard Time' late last night and have purchased 'Party Time' already. I hope an audiobook version of 'Prison Time' is coming out soon as I'll be purchasing that as well.

Before Sean was in my home regularly.

An amazing story BUT, hearing Sean on his regular programmes and recognising his voice, now having an American read this was annoying. I'm sure the narrator is a very nice guy BUT he's not Sean. Having said that, I highly recommend this book.
