About this listen

On arriving home after a friend’s posh wedding, launderette worker Harriet finds her flat has been ransacked and her boyfriend is missing. Shortly afterward, she is harassed by East End gangsters and upper-crust aristocrats. Accepting an offer she can’t refuse, Harriet, against her better judgement, becomes the fiancée of the wealthy Hamilton Lancaster, with dire consequences. What she had not bargained on was meeting Doctor Brice Edmunds.

Harriet’s Big Fat Wedding Blunder is Lynda Renham’s funniest novel. A cocktail of misunderstandings, three unlikely gangsters, a monkey, and a demented cat make this novel a hysterical listen. Follow Harriet’s adventure where every attempt to get out of trouble puts her deeper in it.

Enjoyed the change of this genre. Had a few under my breath giggles as I listen at work! Did get asked what I was smiling about a couple of times too.
A light listen, fun listen & the back chat between the friends amused me, very true to life.
The romance was light when it arrived. Not sickly & was entertaining too.

Fun

I so enjoyed this book, Harriet stumbles from one hilarious disaster to another. Just when she thinks things can’t get in any more of a muddle they do. The mixture of down to earth Harriett and an upper crust family is full of hilarious mishaps, I laughed out loud so many times my cats have hidden behind the sofa! I highly recommend this wonderful book and will be looking for more from this author.

Fantastic British Farce

A fun filled romp from London to the wilds of Scotland. Poor Harriet, left in the lurch by her fly by night boyfriend. What does she do? She tries to pick up his broken pieces and as a result gets herself into very hot water. Is she a woman or a mouse?

Listened to this on audible and enjoyed the narration. Brice’s voice made him a little slimy sounding but he more than made up for it with his masculinity and pillar of the community ways. Some of the un PC comments about the different demographics within, made me cringe just a little, but in the next moment I was laughing out loud too. Is that wrong? Eeek!

Very enjoyable

A fun filled romp!

Well, I didn’t expect to have so many laugh out loud moments while listening to this audiobook! It is such a light-hearted, funny story and it's a perfect choice if you are in need of some cheering up. I found it easy to connect to Harriet, the main character: whether it was to agree with her decisions, get frustrated about the choices she made or laugh at her/with her depended on the actual situation. The narrator was an added bonus and brought the whole story to life. Well done, I really enjoyed it!

Laugh out loud funny

The actual book (paper back) goes by the title The Dog's Bollocks. I have read this about 3 or 4 times because it is that funny. Not many books can have you in stitches, laughing out aloud, where you get strange looks from passers by or "what's so funny" from those close to you. It's ridiculously funny and witty.. It's quirky like Bridgit Jones, but a lot more laughs. NOW I CAN ONLY DREAM OF IT BEING MADE INTO A MOVIE! Go on, try it, if you want a good belly laugh.

Finally on audio!

It made me laugh, it made me smile, it made me believe in love again. I had few tears down my cheeks, as it gets quite romantic sometimes.. Whatelse should have I asked for?

Well done Lynda.. You always give me emotions.. And hopes.

Amazing. From beginning to end

Read the other reviews and thought it was going to be really funny. Found it more like a old fashion farce not very believable.

OK but more of a farce

Harriet’s Big Fat Wedding Blunder

This book is an absolute HOOT !!
I am very choosy about the chick lit I read but I was given an offer I could not refuse just like our erstwhile heroine.
The opening chapter has Harriet, part time medical student and Launderette Manager arriving late at a friend’s posh wedding, in a charity shop frock whilst sat with her best friend, her stammering partner and a couple of toffs. Whilst one is dreamy the other is a bit too friendly for her liking particularly as her own Boyfriend who should have been on her arm has been spotted in her mini going in completely the wrong direction!
This is a rip roaring adventure of a book and the cast of characters including a trio of East End gangsters with a very unique tradition in family naming process. Their unwelcome and mercenary insertion into her affairs ( thanks to her foolhardy Boyfriend and his dubious attempts to raise finance for his restaurant) brings near ruin. When ever spiralling debts and the fear of the removal of her fella’s appendages forces Harriet into an ill-advised engagement of convenience she becomes embroiled in a family saga that brings Dreamy Doctor Brice Edmunds back into the ever swirling maelstrom of Harriet’s life.

Frothy and deeply funny Harriet’s Big Fat Wedding Blunder is my first foray into Lynda Renham’s novels. I know I will seek more, from the griminess of Battersea to the wide open spaces of a country seat in Scotland this is a fish out of water tale that tickles every funny bone. Often ludicrous but always great fun with a sweet central romance of equal parts antagonism and a mysterious allure worthy of Hepburn and Tracy, this is the perfect book to get you over that January hump after Christmas.
Fabulous narration by Rosie Akerman keeps the energy high throughout and had me guffawing on my commute and in my bed alike as I could not stop listening

Tremendous fun
