Summary
Helen of Troy is one of the most evocative names in ancient history. For nearly three thousand years she has been both the embodiment of absolute female beauty and a reminder of the terrible power that it can wield. Held responsible for both the Trojan War and enduring the enmity between East and West, for millennia she has been viewed as an exquisite agent of extermination. But who was she really?
Focusing on the 'real' Helen, bestselling historian Bettany Hughes reconstructs the true life for this elusive Green Bronze age princess and places her alongside the heroes and heroines of myth and history. Vivid and compelling, this remarkable audiobook brilliantly unpacks the facts and myths surrounding one of the most enigmatic and notorious figures of all time.

Excellent
I read the book when it was first published and recently purchased the audiobook because I am a big fan of the author, her other books and TV prgrammes. She narrates the book very well and there is so much more interesting and wide ranging comment that I missed first time around.

Fascinating, entertaining and inspiring
I absolutely LOVED this audiobook. Bettany has the perfect voice to narrate her own wonderful book. I was drawn to this audiobook after listening to The Rest is History podcast on the same subject - I was enticed by their episodes and so thrilled to have been directed to this epic book on an ancient heroine. Loved every moment and will listen again in case I missed anything the first time. Made me want to dig even deeper, if possible, and retrace Helen's steps! Just brilliant!

Fantastic
This is an.amazing exploration of the story and ever changing myth of Helen and I loved it so much. The author weaves together literature, myth, archaeology and sociocultural understanding in a way that is masterful but easy to listen to and understand for a chassis novice. The author reads her own work wonderfully. I could
