Summary

Without mercy, there is no love in this third installment of the Sons of Sinclair historical romance series by award-winning author Heather McCollum.

Gideon Sinclair, the third Sinclair brother, judges everything in stark terms of good and evil. There is nothing in between, and he is efficient at passing judgment without mercy. Now that his clan has conquered the warring MacKays, Gideon starts the process of integrating them into the Sinclair Clan. He will sort the people, punish the bad, and better the lives of the good. Judging is as easy to him as breathing, until he meets Christina MacKay, who steals his breath...along with his Sinclair ring.

A young widow, Christina MacKay has given her life over to helping the orphaned children in the clan. But love won’t put shoes on their cold feet and food in their stomachs. Christina tired years ago of seeing the rich get richer and the poor suffer more and more, so she decided to do something about it. An agile thief of the rich by night, when she is caught, the new conquering chief must decide her fate.

When Gideon realizes that the thief is the same woman who had already captured his attention, he hesitates for the first time in his life. Letting her get away with her deed leads to more trouble when she is accused of stealing from King James and is arrested. Now Gideon must commit his own crime against the Scottish crown if he is to save Christina. But can a man who was raised to honor and uphold justice break the law for the woman who’s stolen his heart?

Love Love LOVE it!

This is the 3rd in the series and I recommend the other books. Gideon is a the best hero, going on a real journey and I adored Cait. They are so different in the beginning but she's just perfect to help Justice open his eyes to the reality of humanity.

One of my favourites

I've read quite a lot of Heather McCollum at this stage, and the Sons of Sinclair series is definitely my favourite. I really liked Cain and Gideon from the start, but Joshua also mellowed really nicely, and I am so excited to read about Bas in the next one. Cait is a good character in this story, and the side characters in this book are fun. There was a hint of 'stupid woman does stupid things' which I hate in these kinds of romances, (usually Heather McCollum does well to avoid that), but there were a couple of close calls in this one. Thankfully resolved quickly. I greatly enjoyed the story, and Tim Campbell reads it well. He has odd pronunciation here and there, but for an American, his British accents are pretty decent, and his voices for characters are always consistent. Great listen.

Silly romance novels couldn't get any better

This writer is so good bringing love storys to life. I cry and laugh and smile, most of the book. Story was exceptionally good and narrators voice acting is suited so well. For historical romance I would give even more stars if I could.

Fallen in love with this series

I have fallen in love with this series. There are unexpected parts, plot twists but also a reassurance of a little smut, amusing (although in realistic) character traits of leading woman but it’s an easy listen and I’m really annoyed book 4 & 5 are not done yet!

wonderful

I'll have to say it again... Heather McCollum's books with Timothy Campbell narrating are a delight!

So much so, that even his "Come" when reciting the horsemen's introductions, send a very pleased shiver up my spine... masterful!

It took me a while to warm to Cait... her attitude & condemnation of Gideon when SHE is caught for stealing & he's very lenient with her punishment, irked me!

She slowly won me over with her love for her children & her bravery... though, she did suffer from "dumb female syndrome" quite a few times, but it was all down to a mother's love for her children, so it wasn't as irritating as that syndrome usually is in romance novels!

Gideon was as delightful as I had hoped, his attempts at trying to seem more human were so cute & reminded me of the Beast in Disney's (animated) Beauty & the Beast... I just wanted to hug him throughout!

Now onwards to Bäs's story & I already know that it's going to be heartwrenching... I've had a soft spot for him since the 1st book & my heart went out for what he must suffer through... the anecdote that his mum was his 2st execution must break his heart everytime :((

My new favourite author

Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book, the 3rd in the series about the sons of Sinclair. The narrator captivates you with his deep gruff voice of Gideon and his brothers. He also is able to switch to the other characters effortlessly without you noticing. You really get drawn into the story believing in the characters and holding your breath at critical points in the story. Can’t wait for the 4th book about the remaining brother. If Scottish romance is your genre you won’t be disappointed.
