About this listen

Earth is in decline, and the wealthy have fled it, leaving only the destitute citizens behind. And aliens.

Gemma McKinley works at a prison cleaning goop off the floors and serving food to inmates. When she is reassigned to the alien ward, Gemma is nervous. Aliens are dangerous and ruthless. They bite. But there is one that isn’t like them. Simon is damaged, starved, and wasting away in complete isolation. Touched by his loneliness, Gemma starts nursing him back to health, dismissing rumors that he’s high-risk, ignoring the advice to let him croak.

Simon despises humans. His only goal is to get off this miserable planet fast, for he is hunted by a scientist obsessed with perfecting the human race. Simon’s rare alien genes are just the ingredient that’s missing for breakthrough research. Thanks to Gemma, for the first time in years, he can escape.

And he will. He will….

As the hunt for Simon heats up, Gemma becomes an unintended target. Is she a fool to help him get away? And will he risk another captivity to protect her?

Good tale, shame about the narrator

Unusual alien interaction right out of left field. If you are expecting a "Laurann Dohner" style alien romance, think again. Gritty, no holes bared adventure/drama in post apocalyptic world, where Simon is held in the alien dept of a fetid, infested, unsanitary prison. All bodily functions and horrors of prison life happen. It's like every question you ever wanted to ask about Ice Planet males, Krinars, Grih, Kronocks, Cyborgs from Garden and New Species, but were too afraid to contemplate, answered for you in graphic detail in one book. You can almost smell it!

The narration is odd and not in a good way, with hints of oh so proper English crossed with Eliza Dolittle; some notes of Australian, some Scottish with Simon sounding like a young gentle French actor. Marnye Young's voice is grating and whiny, like so many American women, but this gives the tale a "realistic" girl on the street sound, so unlike "stage" voices, or trained actors, which actually adds to the "it could be real" atmosphere of the whole book. I didn't know if I would be able to listen to her for more than 30 mins, but I did. Will probably listen to the book again, as the narration is grating and had me cringing for much of the time, so felt I missed alot of what was a good story. (Ironically, at the end when the narrator reads a Postscript she speaks in her normal voice, which is so much better than the one used used during the book!!!).

ENJOYABLE IF YOU CAN TAKE THE NARRATOR

POSTSCRIPT: I did listen again and it was much better 2nd time round. Now I need Book 2 lol

Epic Slow Burn Alien Romance

What a sweet story this was

A Friends to lovers, slow burn, alien Romance

The heroine works at a prison, where our alien hero has been for a few years. She quickly finds herself feeling extremely protective of him and slowly but steadily finds ways to help him

The heroine has such a strong spirit, despite how hard her life has been, she managed to keep her tender heart, she just had such a motherly and nourishing personality

The relationship between our hero and heroine is so sweet, you will fall in love with both of them… the adventure and the action on this story will keep you on your toes… it’s like watching a movie

Loved the narrator, her accent, her different voices

This books has a happy ending, but I hope there’s a second book and we get to see more of this couple because they are just one of my favourite couples ever

I would give this book 6 stars if I could

Ah…. There’s also steamy scenes
