Summary

Number one global bestselling author Sarah J. Maas launches her brand-new CRESCENT CITY series with House of Earth and Blood: the story of half-Fae and half-human Bryce Quinlan as she seeks revenge in a contemporary fantasy world of magic, danger, and searing romance.

Bryce Quinlan had the perfect life-working hard all day and partying all night - until a demon murdered her closest friends, leaving her bereft, wounded, and alone. When the accused is behind bars but the crimes start up again, Bryce finds herself at the heart of the investigation. She'll do whatever it takes to avenge their deaths.

Hunt Athalar is a notorious Fallen angel, now enslaved to the Archangels he once attempted to overthrow. His brutal skills and incredible strength have been set to one purpose - to assassinate his boss' enemies, no questions asked. But with a demon wreaking havoc in the city, he's offered an irresistible deal: help Bryce find the murderer, and his freedom will be within reach.

As Bryce and Hunt dig deep into Crescent City's underbelly, they discover a dark power that threatens everything and everyone they hold dear, and they find, in each other, a blazing passion - one that could set them both free, if they'd only let it.

With unforgettable characters, sizzling romance, and pause-resisting suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by number one global bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom - and the power of love.

Fantastic surprise!!

This book has all of the common elements of urban fantasy but none of the predictable twists. I read a lot of fantasy so there's not a lot I don't see coming. instead the build up towards the end is full of so many twists and surprises that I didn't expect that I'm definitely reading the next one in the series

I am not a fan of detektive books witch this book feltlike sometimes and i lost interest on some of those parts. But the book is absolutely amazons and i cant imagine the work hours behind it! Like all of Sarah j maas books i wish the audiobooks would be read by A male narrator from de male caractors pow.

Couldnt put it down, LOVED IT (Spoiler Free review)

Absolutely loved this book, i finished it in two days because i couldn’t stop listening to it every waking hour since i got it.
One reason i loved this book is because it subverted a lot of my expectations, of course it does follow some classic YA romance tropes but overall the plot never felt overdone or redundant, instead taking these classic tropes and putting a fresh spin on them. This also goes for the characters, Yes they follow certain tropes but they are skillfully written to be morally grey characters who feel like actual people. Yes they are badass but they are also dealing with the trauma of their lives. They feel alive.
The most important thing for me to do in this review is contradicting others i’ve read here, one common thing i saw in the reviews that worried me when getting the book is people saying that the plot is messy and all over the place. And after listening to this book i definitely think people gravely misunderstand the book and the skillful writing that went in to it. The books plot is SOLID. However there are a lot of perspective shifts, Jumping between Bryce and Hunt, and considering they both are voiced by the same actress i can understand how it can become confusing if you aren’t paying attention. As what they say tells you whose perspective you are reading rather than an announcement at the beginning of each chapter as to who is “talking”. On top of this the author cleverly subverts expectations with multiple unbelievable plot-twists, in my opinion all of these are done amazingly, but i can see how someone who isn’t paying full attention to the book could easily get confused when the plot is turned on it’s head.

Overall i just think this book was another hit, and i definitely recommend picking it up.
