About this listen

By day, Elise draws and paints, spilling out the horrific visions of her tortured mind. By night, she walks the streets, selling her body to the highest bidder.

And then they come into her life: a trio of impossibly beautiful vampires: Terence, Maria, and Edward. When they encounter Elise, they set an explosive triangle in motion.

Terence wants to drain her blood. Maria wants Elise . . . as lover and partner through eternity. And Edward, the most recently converted, wants to prevent her from making the same mistake he made as a young abstract expressionist artist in 1950s Greenwich Village: sacrificing his artistic vision for immortal life. He is the only one of them still human enough to realize what an unholy trade this is.

Immortal Things will grip you in a vise of suspense that won't let go until the very last moment, when a shocking turn of events changes everything and demonstrates truly what love and sacrifice are all about.

Very atmospheric!

Great book, very dark and atmospheric. I really enjoyed the flashbacks. I liked the parallels between the two timelines. It was very well done. I also really cared for Elise. I connected with her character and I was worried for her. I found the relationships and the dynamics between the four main characters very interesting and complex. I was super intrigued and hooked. I had no idea how the story would progress and I couldn't wait to find out. The ending was very satisfying.
The narrator was brilliant. Really brought the story to life and captured the atmosphere of the book.
I loved it!

Unique and Clever

Rick R. Reed has done some very clever things in his paranormal horror novel Immortal Things. Skipping from character to character as they fall prey to the vampires, I enjoyed how Reed ties Elise and Edward’s stories together. The connecting fact of the vampires’ appreciation for art and artists is woven beautifully into the novel as well.

A paranormal horror tale (not a romance, though there are some aspects of love covered in this story), there’s marvelous imagery and a dark tone which builds and builds. The narrator of the audio version, Sandra Detweiler, does a good job with this aspect as well.

I liked the story a lot.

This was a different kind of book for me to read since I usually read MM romance but I have thoroughly enjoyed the other books I've read by this author so I wanted to give this one a try. The story was very good but I hate to say that I didn't really care for narrator. I listened to the sample before I requested my review copy and I thought I'd be OK with her voice. I didn't hate her performance but I just felt like it would have been a more powerful story if it had been read by a male voice actor. The book contains scenes between two women but it also contains scenes between men.

It's my personal preference that I'd rather listen to a male voice that can do female voices well (I have listened to several that can). This was a rather spooky kind of story but I couldn't feel it as much as I would have liked. The voices for the male character weren't different enough and I think she could have put more emotion into the story. Unless Sandra Detweiler narrates under another name, this seems to be the only book she has on Audible. If she is indeed a new narrator, I'm sure she will continue to improve.

The blurb does a seriously good job of telling the entire story in a nutshell. The ending was indeed shocking. I'm not sorry that I listened to this audiobook but I do think I might have enjoyed it more if I'd read it with my eyes instead.

One note of warning…This book is fairly gruesome in places and has a bit of a different take on what vampires do when feeding than I've read before.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Dark, vampires book

This is a dark, horror book about Elise, an artist, and 3 vampires. The connection between the characters worked was expertly done and the twists and turns throughout the book kept me hooked. And when we think we have all figured out, here comes the ending as quite a shock.
It is very well written, and the paragraphs flow effortlessly, taking the reader for a ride. I really enjoy this author's writing style.
I have listened to the audiobook and the narrator did an ok job.

Three vampires and a human

Well, the fact that I love this author is not a secret, and this book (audiobook actually), as usual, didn’t disappoint.
I loved the characters, Terence, Maria, Edward, and Elise, three vampires, and a human, as well as the plot, which is really well orchestrated.
It’s quite dark, and full of twists, and as soon as you think you understand where the story is going, everything changes, leading you to another direction.
It is different from the usual books about vampires, since it adds something more, a little bit of “humanity” in a certain way, especially when it comes to Edward.
I loved the narrator too, she did a good job, even though maybe, sometimes she could have “acted” a little bit more, but I liked her performance anyway.
If you love dark romances, and vampires, I recommend it.
