Summary
“Sizzling, Witty, Passionate...Perfect!”
-Eloisa James, New York Times bestselling author
Christi Caldwell, USA TODAY bestselling author of the Wicked Wallflowers series, combs London’s underground and finds romance and danger for a missing lord and the lady who loves him.
To solve a mystery that’s become the talk of the ton, no clues run too deep for willful reporter Verity Lovelace. Not even in the sewers of London. That’s precisely where she finds happily self-sufficient scavenger Malcom North, lost heir to the Earl of Maxwell. Now that Verity’s made him front-page news, what will he make of her?
Kidnapped as a child, with no memories of his well-heeled past, Malcom prefers the grimy spoils of the culverts to the gilded riches of society. Damn the feisty beauty who exposed the contented tosher to a parade of fortune-hunting matchmakers. How to keep them at bay? Verity must pretend to be his wife. She owes him.
The intimacy of this necessary arrangement - Verity and Malcom thrust together in close quarters - soon sparks an irresistible heat. But when the charade ends, the danger begins. Will love be enough to protect them from a treacherous plot devised to ruin them?

Great story and narration
What a delightful audio book. The heroin is smart and witty and the hero’s transformation was well developed.
I loved Tim Campbell’s narration for all the various characters, including the female voices. He is definitely one of my favorite narrators!

something different
I enjoyed this book very much except the writers use of modern language, swear words and north American gestures. none of which would have been used in this time period. along with the mixture of old English, I found myself not quite envisioning a true period drama. however tim Campbell is exceptional as always. he has to be one of the best narrators around. I'm off to purchase the next in the series and can't wait to listen. Although I think ill make a cuppa and get myself comfy first!

Another beautiful story
Loved every second of this story. I laughed and I cried like I did in some of the others before this. I was very pleased that this story didn't end as abruptly as some others did. I loved the ending. Tim Campbell was brilliant as always. He makes the story even better. I love his different voices for the men AND the women. now on to the next one.

SO good, Caldwell's best ever?
Love me a sexually fueled romp like the next girl.... But I always love a story that is driven by mutual affection and undestanding so much more. I find HR the trop of 'desire' and 'wanting the woman more than any other woman before, so I'm going to sleep with her so I can get over this senseless lust' a bit tired. This was such a unique story, where Verity and Malcolm share an attraction, yes, but fall in love without sex playing a role. It's an excellently crafted redemption story without overemphasing the H's misdeads. Malcolm was wonderfully surly, and Verity was utter perfection (so confident and true). Nicely paced and fulfilling listen. Campbell's narration is excellent! HIghly recommend.
