Heat filled Enemies to Lovers romantic suspense
In Safe Hands is Book One of the Safe House series and is Narrated by Michael Pauley.
This is a story about loss, betrayal and a forbidden attraction so hot it could melt an ice cap. I nearly didn't buy this book because of previous reviews but I am so glad I did.
I for one actually loved the snarky commentary and had no issue with the fact that Michael did not try and sound like a woman. I liked that it felt more like I was listening to his private thoughts. To me this was no different to reading any book told from one person's POV.
Damian Stone is a sexy retired NYPD cop tasked with bodyguard duty. His charge is playful mafia daughter Alexa Volkov. A woman he is sworn to protect, does not like and can't trust but wants like no other.
There is lots of snark, back and forth banter and sexual innuendo but not a lot of actual physical sex until part way through the book. Then it's scorching in its intensity.
In a place where nowhere is safe and nothing and no one is what it seems the most dangerous threat is not to their lives but to their hearts. Friendships are tested, oaths are broken and rules thrown out the window before Damien and Alexa get their HEA..
Can a forever kind of love triumph over all? Can a forbidden attraction flourish whilst running for your lives? Of course it can but to get there is one of a ride.
IMO I believe that adult readers who like a good suspense thriller with heat will enjoy this book but if you are looking for a Pullitzer prize winner then this book is not for you.
