About this listen

Benedick Hunter is a man who has lost everything. A failed actor and divorced father, his life takes on a new direction when he finds a book of his mother's in which real people and their stories are strangely interwoven with traditional fairy-tales. In 1965, Laura, an American illustrator of children's books, committed suicide in Primrose Hill after Benedick's father left her for another woman. Her son can remember nothing about her, but the fairy-tales and their tantalizing illustrations convince him that his own life is in some way echoing hers.©2000 Amanda Craig (P)2014 Audible, Inc. I'm a fan

I first heard this as a library loan a couple of years back- it is a dark tale beautifully told (and narrated). Hands up, I'm a fan of Daniel Hill, the narrator, he not only narrates older readers books brilliantly, but his work on children's books is astonishing! His character voices and energy are terrific. he inhabits the world of the book totally and give life to everything he reads. Amanda Craig's book is a must-read\listen.
