Summary

She was sent down....

Cara Lockhart has just commenced a life sentence in HMP North Fern - the newest maximum-security women's prison in the country. She was convicted of a crime she is adamant she didn't commit.

She was set up....

One morning she wakes up to find her cellmate murdered - shot in the head with a gun that is missing. The door was locked all night, which makes Cara the only suspect.

But that was just the beginning.

Cara needs to clear her name, unravelling an impossible case, with an investigation governed by a prison timetable. But as Cara starts to learn more about North Fern and the predicament she is in, she finds connections between the past and present that she never could have imagined.

Indeed it seems that her conviction and her current situation might be linked in very strange ways....

Wow

So,I said in my last review on an Audible Book that I never wrote about or rated books. It seems that this is slowly changing. This is because although I am able to read at least 4-5 books at a time,I have came across another book which kept me engaged to the very last word! I found it impossible to flick between my books. This is worth so many stars for each category. No I will not summarise it, as it has already been done by the author or publishers! I will tell you to read this book something I don't particularly like to do,as I always mention readers tastes are indeed so different, however this storyline had everything. It's not the run of the mill domestic noir. It is different in the settings, protagonist and her nemesis! It has umph really packed with a cat and mouse style/who did what who is who and lots of ' I don't get it but I'm going to work this one out ' and you may well do that. It does not take away the obsessive compulsive feelings of wanting to get to the end of the plot. Phew what a brilliant build up to the ending and the characters your rooting for. My only niggle was I wanted to know what happened to the ' not so forefront characters ' that helped make the book what it is. I felt that maybe some lose ends could have been delt with a little bit better as I was left wanting more! Do not let this comment put you off listening to this exciting experience! Make of it what you will, however to do this you need to listen to this book and niggles aside it is well worth a credit. I should also point out it is also not just a book set in a normal prison setting so go for it. I would be very interested to see what other listeners think!

Yoga for the imagination

This is a weird and wonderful novel that has a lot more to it than you might think, it does have an element of the 'fantastical' about it which adds to it's appeal for me.

Cara is a woman wronged, behind bars for something she did not do, or did she? We're pretty sure that she is not guilty so we'll go from there, she is moved, for no apparent reason, to a bizarre prototype prison where nothing is as it seems. This is where the weird starts, and carries on.

There is a most bizarre revenge plot built into this story, which some will think is beyond belief, but to me it's like yoga for the imagination. I loved this book, I loved the plot, the characters and the narrator, so it gets a full five stars all round.
