Summary

New York Times best seller

After a sudden change of plans, a remarkable woman and her loyal group of friends try to figure out what she’s going to do with the rest of her life - from Terry McMillan, the best-selling author of How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting to Exhale.

Named One of the Best Books of the Year by Good Housekeeping

“Poignant, funny and full of life, this is a balm for troubled times.” (People)

Loretha Curry’s life is full. A little crowded sometimes, but full indeed. On the eve of her 68th birthday, she has a booming beauty-supply empire, a gaggle of lifelong friends, and a husband whose moves still surprise. True, she’s carrying a few more pounds than she should be, but Loretha is not one of those women who think her best days are behind her - and she’s determined to prove wrong her mother, her twin sister, and everyone else with that outdated view of aging wrong. It’s not all downhill from here.

But when an unexpected loss turns her world upside-down, Loretha will have to summon all her strength, resourcefulness, and determination to keep on thriving, pursue joy, heal old wounds, and chart new paths. With a little help from her friends, of course.

Life Affirming

A story of friendship family, loss and hope. Full of humour and the realities of life. The narration was perfect and conveyed the sassiness of the characters and authors voice. Totally engaging with great characters and a story those of us in midlife can relate to. These women of colour are easy to imagine and McMillian’s easy flow of writing makes you feel like you are apart of their lives and friendship circle. Thoroughly enjoyed

Good Story!

I loved the story but found it difficult to listen to at times. I love Terry's books but I found that she made the characters sound like miserable old women!

This book is everything

I bought this just from the sample and how relatable and funny the narrator is. It’s like listening to a friend, even as a 31 year old British Pakistani, I felt such a bond with Loretia and the other wonderful characters. These characters are universal in their specificity, and the writing is so natural and witty. Highly recommend to everyone. Oh and the author is an excellent narrator, I assumed it was an actor so I’m extra impressed.
