Summary

Ever wondered what sort of a police officer you might make?

Alfie Moore spent eighteen years on the Humberside police force before turning to stand-up comedy. In each episode of this live stand up show, he takes his audience through a scenario based on a real life case, and tasks them with deciding how they would have acted in the circumstances.

From drink driving to a missing gnome, road traffic collisions to the tricky subject of Stop and Search, not to mention a case in which you must imagine what it would be like if Bruce Lee came from Scunthorpe and had been hammering the kebabs for twenty years…

Along the way Alfie spills the beans on what it's really like to be one of Britain's finest, tells us some great anecdotes about law breakers and makers that he's come across and gets his audience to divulge secrets about their own, sometimes less than strictly law-abiding lives.

"Genuinely funny, sharp observational comedy....deftly done" - Chortle

"Brilliantly funny, genuinely hilarious" - David Mitchell

"A large dash of police gallows humour" - The Telegraph

"Offbeat, revealing and very funny" - Daily Mail

"A very funny man" - Rhod Gilbert

A diamond in the midden

I’m amazed that this series got past the Radio 4 commissioning editors and their apparent obsession with deeply unfunny London-centric media-luvvy programming.

It stands out from the normal Radio 4 fare because:

1. It is actually very funny and isn’t afraid to challenge the audience’s preconceptions (maybe “The Now Show” presenters could learn something on that front).
2. Perhaps not unrelated to point 1, it has a distinct Northern sensibility - Alfie draws upon his working experience in Humberside and mercilessly makes fun of the Met police.
3. The frequent interactions with the audience are brilliant and Alfie lets the public show how funny they can be.
4. Whilst you’re laughing you also learn a lot about the law and the difficulties of trying to apply it in real life situations.

To sum up - a diamond in the midden of Radio 4’s usual comedy output. Who’d have thought that there was life and license fee payers north of Watford?

genuinely funny

a genuinely funny and entertaining audiobook. Very much enjoyed the slant on this. As its originally meant for radio it makes for a slightly different feel. easy to listen to and follow and and kept me laughing in the car.

A policeman's lot ... hilarious and fascinating.

What would you do if you were a cop faced with a particular situation? This is the question posed by comedian Alfie Moore as he outlines real-life cases he was involved in and invites the audience to make decisions at critical junctures. Filled with fascinating vignettes of life on the beat, hilarious observations on the vicissitudes of life and humanity, and wonderful interludes where he reads out answers submitted by the audience to questions posed beforehand, this s a masterpiece of wit, commentary and storytelling.
I rarely write reviews but this series moved me to. I bought this after hearing one episode on radio and I wasn't disappointed. Laugh-out-loud moments abound and it keeps you engaged from beginning to end. Bravo!

Fantastic - always thought stand up ...

should have more audience participation and Alfie is storyteller, funny man, educator of laws, section acts and incriminating lines of questioning told from his career as a Police Sargent. Love all the mocking of the boys at the Met office and CPS. "Bouncing off the PVC door" was hilarious imagery.

Thank you passing stranger in Starbucks Canterbury for the heads-up re this podcast. Hope you enjoy The Blindboy Podcast as much!

Alfie very much at times when he picks up speed, sounds like comedian Lee Mack.

Very good

I came across this on the radio and bought the series, its very dry humor and very suited to someone that's from a police/military background.
