Fantastic guide!
Record and assess. This advice has been loosely advised when I started out to change my speech pattern. It's hard. Because you tend to use another "voice" when you record. The only time you can record yourself in your natural speech is to get someone else to do it for you (and without you knowing). This book is a joy to listen to. It shares other people's experience. Gives me a sense of comradery. I tried again and managed to record myself (i.e. I forgot that I was recording, so.) and yes, same reaction: "Stop!". I hated what I heard. Definitely not what I hear through my ears and in my head in realtime. I wished I have Carol to assess me and get me out of this rut! Oh well, at least I have this audiobook as guide.
