About this listen

Explore the fascinating life of Jackie Kennedy!

Without a doubt, the name Jacqueline Kennedy draws multiple thoughts to mind. She is, perhaps, most well-known for her service as the first lady of the United States when her husband, John F. Kennedy, took office as the president, and for her role in restoring the White House. Then, of course, other people remember Jackie for her role in the fashion industry, particularly her pink Chanel suit and matching pillbox hat, which became symbols of her husband's assassination. Jackie is so renowned and beloved that she ranks as one of the most popular first ladies. In fact, Jacqueline was named, in 1999, in Gallup's list of Most Admired Men and Women in 20th century America. While she made major impacts on the White House, Jackie was much more than her title of first lady.

Some of the topics covered in this audiobook include:

  • Childhood and early education
  • College and early career

  • Motherhood

This is quite fascinating.,

Fascinating biography of the former First Lady. I learned a lot, which surprised me, because I thought I'd already read everything I could read about her! A very sympathetic, heart wrenching book. Highly recommend to anyone who loves history and/or has an interest in the Kennedy era.

Good.

Had a chance to take an in depth look at this public figure as she lived through her private hell. Before reading this book I regarded Mrs Kennedy as someone that had been touched by tragedy but remained somewhat removed it, now I realize how little I knew her.

very interesting.

AN interesting account of the life of a woman who was both admired and criticized by the American public. I never realized the extent of the trauma she lived with for so many years until I read this book.

Very good audio book.

Most everything has been told many many times about Jackie. I knew she had to have had PTSD but I didn't realize how hard she had to fight it for her children. She had a great life but terrible tragedies too. This is a very good book.

Fantastic!!!

I've taught history at the high school level for two decades and this book was a HUGE addition to my teaching. My job requires me to read as much as humanly possible and this book made that an incredibly enjoyable experience. Whether you are a history buff, a fan of an American icon or you want to walk down memory lane as you examine her life, this book is for you. An absolute must. Author is well versed in all angles of Jackie's life and the book reads like an avalanche of information.

Enjoyed it!

I thoroughly enjoyed the audio book. Mrs. Kennedy became a private citizen after her husband's death. She never ran for elected office or sought out a political appointment. I think any criticism of her actions after November 23 are unfair. She publicly supported the arts in New York. We do not know of her other good works that she did in private.

Captivating indeed.

Well -written and narrated, personal history of Jackie's long struggle with the effects of the traumatic events of her husband's violent death. AL though Jackie was admired and misunderstood by the world, Jackie's story as told in this book sheds light on the challenges of America's celebrities.

Very good.

It's impossible for anyone to understand what it must have been like for Jacqueline Kennedy to watch her husbands head shot off right in front of her - under the scorching scrutiny of the entire world watching. That PTSD, depression, suicidal depression - were not understood in 1963 as they are today. Nor were there the wide variety of therapies and medications that we have today available then.
