Summary
*Discover The Secret Hours, the gripping new thriller from Mick Herron and an unmissable read for Slough House fans*
*Now a major TV series starring Gary Oldman*
'We're spies,' said Lamb. 'All kinds of outlandish shit goes on.'
Like the ringing of a dead man's phone, or an unwelcome guest at a funeral....
In Slough House memories are stirring, all of them bad. Catherine Standish is buying booze again, Louisa Guy is raking over the ashes of lost love, and new recruit Lech Wicinski, whose sins make him outcast even among the slow horses, is determined to discover who destroyed his career, even if he tears his life apart in the process.
And with winter taking its grip Jackson Lamb would sooner be left brooding in peace, but even he can't ignore the dried blood on his carpets. So when the man responsible breaks cover at last, Lamb sends the slow horses out to even the score.
This time, they're heading into joe country.
And they're not all coming home.

comic genius
Jackson Lamb is my favourite comic character - the whole series of books sparkle with his wit and wisdom and the performance brilliantly brings him to life. Great entertainment.

Another fantastic read
I couldn't wait for this latest book and it didn't disappoint.
The storyline kept me wanting to read more which meant that it ended too soon.
Loved it.

Another 'Slow Horse' classic.
Jackson Lamb continues his acerbic direction of the 'Slow Horses' as they venture into 'Joe country' once more.

Slough House and Sean Barret at their best
Title says it all. Brings home the pointless machinations of political power and money in a very contemporary setting. brilliant

ANOTHER GREAT LISTEN FROM NICK HERRON
I had listened to all of the previous Jackson Lamb series, and could not wait to listen to this one. I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole series now, and can only hope that there will be more of Jackson Lamb from Nick Herron. All the books have been a great listen, very interesting and funny.

Good, Better, Best
In the pantheon of Slow Horses this is one of the best. Yes, a little formulaic but thoroughly entertaining and as always fabulously narrated.
A little niggle; not enough Jackson Lamb. I was trying to describe him to a colleague form the conflict 30 years ago and there are bits of him throughout our old colleagues. Incompetence exterior; masking deep competence. Which was better than most of our leaders who showed a modicum of competence masking deep incompetence

Another truly brilliant book in this series
Why is this such a good read?
To enjoy a book you need to have a set of characters that you either like or like hearing about and this book has great characters in abundance., I don;t ever write reviews but in this case I just had to because the wit of the author is absolutely brilliant and he carries the theme throughout the books that make you chuckle, like Shirley with "yellow car"!! You will only understand that if you are an avid reader of the series. I have trouble sleeping so i usually play my audio books to send me to sleep and then go back to the chapters that i have missed the next day but it does not work with slow horses because you cannot go to sleep when things make you smile or you are listening to the goings on of the "Rodster". Mick Herron is so so lucky that Sean Barrett is the narrator because this wraps everything up into a truly brilliant package. Who else could be Jackson Lamb other than a Sean Barrrett voice and his female voices are spot on. I really hope there is another in the series. Pure genius!
