About this listen

Fifteen years after Ondi Timoner’s film Dig! shot The Brian Jonestown Massacre to international fame comes the first ever book on the controversial band and their leader, Anton Newcombe, who together have been at the forefront of the resurgence of psychedelic rock in recent decades — and become one of the most infamous and controversial bands around in the process.

Drawing on years of extensive research and personal interviews with over 125 people connected to the band — including former and current members Joel Gion, Matt Hollywood, Jeff Davies, Rick Maymi, and Frankie Emerson, as well as The Dandy Warhols, Miranda Lee Richards, Dave Deresinski, and Ondi Timoner — Keep Music Evil: The Brian Jonestown Massacre Story digs a little deeper into the history of the band and the making of the film.

Written as a personal narrative that evokes the New Journalism of Tom Wolfe and Hunter S. Thompson, Keep Music Evil sets the record straight, once and for all, providing close insights into the band’s origins in early 1990s San Francisco, their record-making process, and the full, unexpurgated tale of Dig! Featuring rare, candid photographs of the band from throughout their career, this is the first comprehensive study of one of modern rock ’n’ roll’s most enduring sagas.

Great oral history of the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Only problem is that there was no edit, a lot of repeated words, reader start g to read again

Good Story, no edits

Jesse is clearly passionate about the band and the stories and detail are good. The downside was the actual narration which is relentless, with hardly a breath between sentences. At that speed I sometimes found it hard to take in. The editing is also a problem which sees several sentences being repeated and one chapter which seems to glitch and jump.

Good story badly read and edited

I am a huge fan of BJM and bought the paperback version of this book as well as the audible and so glad I did.
The audible version is shockingly bad!!! The worst narration I have had onaudible and should be re done and re listed it’s so bad!!

It’s read so quickly it’s impossible to keep up. All the breaths have been edited out. Edits have been missed so there are lots of repeated words and sentences left in.
The ends of chapters don’t make sense it’s just so bad.
I hate writing this review as the author has done a great job putting the book together which is why the audible version is so disappointing.
Buy the book but the paperback version and you’ll be happy. Buy this version and you won’t be.

Great book- But buy the paperback
