About this listen

The miracle isn’t surviving cancer. The miracle is thriving while fighting cancer.

In a world filled with blockbuster superhero movies and a new superhero TV show every week, it’s easy to forget that our real world is filled with heroes too.

This is the story of one of those real incredibllife superheroes, Keith Storm. Keith’s superpower was incredible strength. He couldn’t lift a car with one arm or anything, but he had an unbreakable inner strength.

That strength not only allowed him to survive stage four colorectal cancer for 11 years, it also inspired and lifted everyone around him.

There are lots of inspirational cancer audiobooks about people beating cancer. This is a different kind of story. This is about how to deal with cancer.

Any cancer diagnosis is frightening and life-altering. But most people with stage four colorectal cancer have just enough time to get their affairs in order before they pass on—if they’re lucky.

Keith not only battled cancer for 11 years, he did so with a resilience, humor, and grace that feels like it came from a movie script.

No matter how many audiobooks on cancer you’ve heard, you’ve never heard a story like Keith’s before.

This memoir is lovingly written by Keith’s widow Maryla (Mary to her friends) Storm. She skillfully weaves the story of her and Keith’s lives together with Keith’s journal entries from his lengthy dog fight with cancer.

Inside this cancer memoir, you will also find Keith’s toolkit for thriving while dealing with cancer. You can apply these same lessons in your life to overcome any obstacles.

This isn’t just another of the many audiobooks about cancer. This is an audiobook about thriving no matter what life throws at you.

This is the perfect audiobook for cancer survivors and their families. It’s a must-listen for anyone who is facing impossible odds. It’s impossible to hear this audiobook and not feel empowered by Keith ’s unbreakable spirit and desire to make everyone around him a little better.

Critic reviews

"Patrice Smith and Luke Erlenbusch narrate Mary Storm’s memoir of her husband Keith’s long struggle with colon cancer. Smith starts with how they met—each had been married twice before. They found joy in their shared religion and in ballroom dancing, both of which helped sustain them through repeated surgeries and treatments. Erlenbusch reads passages from Keith’s journal sprinkled throughout. Smith reviews some of the research Storm did so they could understand what the doctors told them. She makes numerous references to websites and repeatedly mentions an appendix, which might have been useful as a supplement to the audiobook. Smith is earnest and conveys strong emotions. Erlenbusch expresses Keith’s stoicism as he faces each new setback." (J.E.M. © AudioFile 2023, Portland, Maine (Published: July 2023))
