About this listen

For years, two sisters have vied for the turf of their dead crime boss father. Across the streets of Guatemala City, bodies have piled up; the US Drug Enforcement Agency, operating far from its own borders, is powerless to stop the fighting.

But now one sister has a weapon that could finally win the war - a cold, amoral hitman known, fittingly, as 'Victor'.

Freed from previous employers the CIA and MI6, Victor is a killer for hire whose sense of self-preservation trumps all else. Yet as betrayal and counterbetrayal unspool in the vicious family feud, Victor finds himself at the centre of a storm even he could be powerless to stop.

Acclaimed best seller Tom Wood blows the competition away with his twisting, relentless new thriller, perfect for fans of Gregg Hurwitz (Orphan X, The Nowhere Man), James Swallow (Nomad, Exile) and Terry Hayes (I Am Pilgrim, Day of the Locust).

Stick with it and you won’t be disappointed!

As with some of the reviews I was initially disappointed with the change of performer, it’s not the victor I know. However persevere and you won’t be disappointed. The story line is back to its best, and I soon got wrapped up in the new performers voice, which is less harsh and excellently delivers the characters on show. Great listen, again found myself looking for excuses and opportunities to listen to the next chapter - can’t wait for the next one.

Excellent

I have absolutely loved listening to this series whilst driving, very sad that it has come to an end especially seen as though it feels like there could have been more as this last book seems very open ended! I highly recommend this series.

Victor the romantic

The thriller plot was as twisty as ever and kept me guessing till the end. But what I liked most was that Victor was allowed to have some fun and show a slightly more human side. I was a little apprehensive at the change of reader but Peter Noble is excellent - very good at accents and characterisation. And he added to the impression of a more likeable Victor.

Victor at his best

Really enjoyed Victor the Jerkel and hide. Affable one minute, deadly the next. Peter Noble did an excellent job with Victor, the general narration and accents. Daniel Philpot's accents were not believable and irritating. I struggled through the different American accents in Hunter. But I really liked his portrayal of Victor.

I liked the new narrator

I must admit the previous reviews about the change of narrator put me off for some time but after taking the plunge I must admit I enjoyed the change. After all I believe the previous narrator has retired.

Good Stuff!

Still not as good as the first three Victor novels, but better than the last couple where the series seemed to lose its way a bit. It's far fetched and lacks credibility here and there, but as always with this author it's well written and very enjoyable. I can't agree with others who've criticised the performance, I thought it was very well read.

Dont Worry - the narration is great!

Lots of people worried about the change of reader - me too! However, the reader us excellent, Victor sounds slightly tougher at first but this seems to be dialled back as the story progresses. I used to enjoy the irony of soft spoken civility combined with deadly lethality but the new guy does a great job. Good story as well!

Victor at his best

Brilliant story with twists and turns all over the place. Helped I think by a slower plot development. Tom Wood just nailed it and this is one of the best in the series. I personally think the narrator, Peter Noble is brilliant and an inspired choice. He suits Victor.

Enjoyable

It's typical fare for this kind of book. I enjoyed it. Not for literature snobs but I thought it was well written. The performance of the narrator was excellent. Not everyones cup of tea and predictable I. E you know Victor will come out on top in the end.
