About this listen
"For the love of God, cut off my head." The last request in Uncle Silas's will shocks everyone speechless, everyone except his favorite niece, Anna. More than death itself, the claustrophobic Silas fears a premature burial. Will her elders carry out his request? Anna is certain they will not. It's up to her to do the right thing, even if it is a bit grisly. Armed with butcher knife and candle, Anna heads for the crypt underneath the church in the dead of night. All does not go according to Anna's careful planning.
Step inside a dark story in the tradition of the penny dreadful, at times humorous and horrifying, but don't close the door behind you. Someone might lock you in.

Knowing that none of the family will agree, Anna decides to take the matter into her own hands, but creeping into the crypt with a carving knife wasn't to be as simple as it first looked.
An interesting dark Gothic tale with a nice twist in the tail
The audio book version is expertly narrated

The feeling of gothic is all the places, and I loved the descriptions of the Victorian life of a middle-class young woman.
I had hoped there would be more angst and/or horror. Maybe even a bit of fantasy would have been nice. The ending was a bit flat for me, however; it was well-written and made sense.
The narrator was annoying in my ears and was it not for StoryOrigin and the author, I would have DNF'ed it because of the voice.
Enjoyable and quick

The narration however is poor, as it's by an American narrator who is attempting a full story in a British accent with the result of detracting from a great short story, rather than adding to the experience. Reviews on audible.com are all highly complimentary of her but I'm afraid that listening as a Brit, it was a struggle.
I've rated the story as a 4, as it's good and I would recommend it but inclined to suggest as a read rather than listen.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
