About this listen

'Once again, Christina Courtenay has transported me through time to a world that feels more than real . . . I can only recommend that you read this absorbing, energising novel for yourself'
SUE MOORCROFT

Brimming with romance, adventure and vivid historical detail, Christina Courtenay does for the Vikings what Diana Gabaldon's Outlander and Clanlands does for Scottish history.

Inscribed Viking axe head. Good condition. Probably late 9th century. This was it, his passport to the past.

Storm Berger has never forgiven himself for his younger sister Madison's disappearance. Suspecting she's travelled back to the ninth century in the footsteps of other family members, Storm can only make sure she's safe by going after her.

Raised unconventionally as her father's only child, Freydis has never been content to simply accept her fate. So, when she's promised in marriage to a tyrant, she's determined to find a way out of the arrangement. Help comes in the form of a mysterious and attractive stranger stranded on her island's shores: Storm.

The only way Freydis can truly be free is for Storm to marry her himself. But that would mean entwining lives that, until now, have been separated by centuries. . .

I love the Runes stories, couldn't wait for this edition! However, although still addictive listening, I felt a little disappointed this time with the storyline. It felt too predicted and a bit samey. But hasn't put me off if, in the future, there are further books to listen to. I would buy in a heartbeat.
I enjoyed the epilogue and final mini story about Estrid and Tern? couldn't quite make out his name, but I'd love to know how they will get on in the 9th century.
And as always, the narrator is amazing!

Wow! what an end to, in my opinion, the best dual time / time slip series. I've been hooked since Echoes and loved every single one.
Highly recommended.
Wonderfully written & beautifully narrated.
Will miss these Vikings!
