Interesting Life Of A Legend.

Kirk Douglas lived a long distinguished life at a time when film stars were true legends. It’s interesting to hear about his life in Hollywood & the many stars he worked with. The love he had for his wife, family & how close they all were. I really enjoyed listening to this book & the orator did a good job. Well worth a listen or a read of Kirk’s amazing life & thoughts & opinions on life & the world in general.

Another animated telling of Kirk's life

The more I read about this man the more I adore him. oh what a life he's packed in do far.

The only bit I didn't enjoy consistently was the narrator. But I understand it can't be helped since Kirk's stroke and health effected his speech. Perhaps his son Micheal might have been a better choice.

Still a throughly inspiring and fascinating book.

Let‘s Face It - Kirk Douglas

Thoroughly enjoyed this book - in fact I think I will listen to it again very soon. Would recommend it. The story was very well told by the narrator, who sounded just like Kirk Douglas. I enjoyed listening to the views which Kirk Douglas shared and found the content of the book very interesting..

Brave Guy for continuing to tell his story..

I knew Kirk Douglas was old and very old when he finally passed, 103. I think this was written when he was 90... i didnt ever no much about Kirk... Spartacus of course and i saw many of his great movies.....he was a hollywood A List leading man for decades and very very successful and of course his kids who were pretty famous as well. This was a down to earth and humble account of the now very wise and elderly Kirk in the final phase of his life.... what a great guy for continuing as best he could right to the end. i really enjoyed listening too his story.

Wise, warm, engaging.

Firstly the narrator, Jason Alexander, was excellent which surprised me. I didn't think I liked him but I've only ever seen him in the movie Pretty Woman (I've never seen Seinfeld). He was a very pleasant surprise and I like him now. He narrated perfectly, his pace, his tones, even his impressions of some of the other people mentioned. I've never awarded 5* to a narrator before but he thoroughly deserves it. It helps that he was a friend of Kirk's and spent time with him.

I really do like Kirk Douglas. I love old Hollywood stars, especially from the golden era and from the studio system. I had already read Kirk's "The Ragman's Son" and thoroughly enjoyed that. In this book, he's obviously older and more mellowed and philosophical. Pondering his mortality and lost peers, as well as his many close shaves with death, but never really with melancholy. He covers his religious beliefs and politics but never in a preachy way, more in a curious and obviously open to differences and similarities in all of them. He's definitely become more romantic, especially towards his wife Anne and includes lovely personal poems to her. He's also very philanthropic, particularly towards children and drama students. He talks about visiting his son Eric's grave once per week with Anne and talking to him. Obviously he talks about Michael and their relationship and questions whether he was a good father, because of the loss of Eric to drugs, his long absences when they were young and he was away filming. He clearly distinguishes himself between young Kirk and old Kirk and prefers the wisdom of old Kirk but still has the naughty side of young Kirk. Plus an appreciative eye for the arts ... and women!
He still has a good sense of humour and I was interested enough to get through the book in two sittings in one day. The feelings I'm left with are an even better impression of a very warm, intelligent, philanthropic, interested, charismatic, engaging man. A life well spent. RIP Kirk 1916-2020.

A legacy of kindness

An incredible thought provoking book from one of Movies greatest actors. Multiple passages of wisdom, advice and all round kindness of many levels. Thoroughly recommended, his like do not come along very often. Brilliantly read by Jason Alexander

enjoyable read

Enjoyed this account of one of the great Hollywood golden actors. A bit morbid in parts when he is reflecting on his life and impending death at age 90 but an easy to listen to book and lively to hear his real love and affection for his wife and family.

Enjoyed it so much I immediately purchased his autobiography I a Spartacus and am thoroughly enjoying that too

More anecdote, less opinion, please

The author appears to be a well intentioned, good man who has lived an amazing life. If this autobiography had contained more about that life and less homespun, well meant but simplistic philosophy, it would have been more interesting and enjoyable.
