About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Long before the First Order, before the Empire, before even The Phantom Menace...Jedi lit the way for the galaxy in the High Republic.

It is a golden age. Intrepid hyperspace scouts expand the reach of the Republic to the furthest stars, worlds flourish under the benevolent leadership of the Senate and peace reigns, enforced by the wisdom and strength of the renowned order of Force users known as the Jedi. With the Jedi at the height of their power, the free citizens of the galaxy are confident in their ability to weather any storm. But the even brightest light can cast a shadow, and some storms defy any preparation.

When a shocking catastrophe in hyperspace tears a ship to pieces, the flurry of shrapnel emerging from the disaster threatens an entire system. No sooner does the call for help go out than the Jedi race to the scene. The scope of the emergence, however, is enough to push even Jedi to their limit. As the sky breaks open and destruction rains down upon the peaceful alliance they helped to build, the Jedi must trust in the Force to see them through a day in which a single mistake could cost billions of lives.

Even as the Jedi battle valiantly against calamity, something truly deadly grows beyond the boundary of the Republic. The hyperspace disaster is far more sinister than the Jedi could ever suspect. A threat hides in the darkness, far from the light of the age, and harbours a secret that could strike fear into even a Jedi's heart.

A strong start to the new era

Light of the Jedi is the start of a new Era in Star Wars.
So far out of the 3 high republic novels I’ve read this is by far the best.
There’s lots of characters in here, lots of names to remember but this is the start of a new era and there’s some likeable characters that I hope will grow and develop over time.

Star wars at its best

One of the best Star Wars books and well-produced audiobooks available. I recommend this to any star wars fan. Ive listened to and read loads of star wars books, and this is one of the greatest.

This is a good start

I was dubious about the high republic and when I saw "Space Vikings" in the planning studio, I was worried.

That said, I throughly enjoyed this book. The plot was enjoyable, felt like star wars, the characters felt like star wars and the Nihil are a cool new enemy. (My money is on the Knights of Ren having roots with the Nihil).

How they'll explain all this new stuff away for the start of the Skywalker saga is another question (the Jedi Vector ships seem like they would have been useful in the clone wars), but we will see.

I'm not sure why people are complaining in other reviews, Marc Thompson narrated brilliantly as always and the music and sfx don't interfere with the story at all, actually refreshing hearing new music. If you don't like it, read the book.

This is an exciting new chapter in star wars and its great.

it's the new star wars

it's the new star wars and it's a different story that the movie and TV shows and the fans will find it rubbish but it not really it's a new story in a new era take it for what it is a good story and a new path for the franchise give it a go and see what you think

Good setup

The narrator did a great job. The story was alright, starting with a bang but becoming a bit boring in the middle and managing to ramp it up again in the end. I usually enjoy the Jedi vs Sith struggle stories so this was a bit different for me (do not go into this expecting anything like that). The only character that isn't forgettable (atleast for me) is The Eye. There were simply too many characters to keep track of to be able to get attached to. It'll be interesting to see where they take the story from here but I'm worried it'll be more of the same.

Fantastic!

It took me a bit to get into it, but I really, really ended up enjoying it.

The characters are compelling and the subtle links to the Star Wars we know and love is something I truly appreciate.

If you pick this up, you won’t regret it.

A nice new take on early Jedi

I had no problems with the audio and got right into the store quickly. It’s a great big galaxy full of Jedi doing good and battling scum and villainy.

The one thing I did struggle with (hence the 4 starts) is the amount of characters and names... I love a big story... but so many people made it a little hard for me to follow along at times.

The start of Disney sw canon

Not a fan of the narrator. I find him to be a bit annoying, the story was lacking the sw lore building that I love from the books.
