Summary
Stuck in Loch Ness while Edinburgh falls under the control of a terrifyingly powerful Siren, Ramya Knox is frustrated. She’s supposed to be learning magic from her Aunt Opal, but that isn’t going as smoothly as she’d hoped. As she pushes to rescue her Hidden Folk friends in the city, long-buried secrets come to light and legends come to life. Ramya knows she’s different; she knows she’s a witch. But now she must learn the true meaning of her powers...before all she loves is lost.

like A curse is a fine book
This lacks a little bit of the charm the last book had. I really wanted to like it, but when the main character seems to struggle to change and is a bit obnoxious- it ruins it a little. but overall it was cure. i like it.

Another great story!
Loved this sequel to Like a Charm, and how it completed the story. Edinburgh and Loch Ness both great settings for this magical tale.

Loved this, the conclusion of a fantastic duology about having faith in your own abilities regardless of what society may say.

Another fantastic book!
Love all Elle McNicolls books! It is on the list of nominations for the Carnegie medal 2024 I I hope this author is finally on the shortlist!
One tiny tiny criticism is that while I relish all the descriptions of dyspraxia and it has helped me understand it more, it feel like it’s brought up a little too often. It almost feels like Ramya is limiting her self image to just her dyspraxia. Please, please don’t take this as me trying to be ableist, it just feels like she should perhaps not define herself just by this.

Excellent book
I may be an adult but I have enjoyed these audible books so much, I have been involved in the drama, the sadness, but mostly the happiness, support and joy friendship and family bring. Thank you xx

I loved the narration and the diversity representation
It was lovely to listen to the narration, especially with the Scottish accent(s). I have a soft spot for Scotland, so I may be biased, but it’s already a magical place for me, and this story full of magic and family and acceptance is touching. Another thing I liked, was the fact neurodivergence was portrayed (like in the first book) positively, even with its challenges. Just don’t forget to read “Like a Charm” first. 😉
