Summary

After a chance meeting in the pub, Roger Morgan-Grenville and his friend Duncan decide to take up beekeeping. Their enthusiasm matched only by their ignorance, they are pitched into an arcane world of unexpected challenges.

Coping with many setbacks along the way, they manage to create a colony of beehives, finishing two years later with more honey than anyone knows what to do with. By standing back from their normal lives and working with the cycle of the seasons, they emerge with a new-found understanding of nature and a respect for the honeybee and the threats it faces.

Wryly humorous and surprisingly moving, Liquid Gold is the story of a friendship between two unlikely men at very different stages of their lives. It is also an uplifting account of the author's own midlife journey: coming to terms with an empty nest, getting older, looking for something new.

Informative and hugely enjoyable

Fantastic writing, making easy work of imparting a huge amount of facts, intertwined with a really entertaining story. We listened in the car with kids and the whole family thoroughly enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

Excellent

A grest way to learn with humour. Self-effacing funny but with a serious message. I have since enrolled on a beekeeping course and in the process of building rather than buying a hive ( I am Yorkshire!!) j x

An excellent overview of Beekeeping.

A very informative read or listen for anyone involved in gardening and conservation. We often hear of the importance of this little insect that plays an often unseen integral part to wildlife. This book brings to the fore knowledge that is often lacking. Understanding the problem takes us closer to solving it, not just for now but for generations to come.
Beautifully written with plenty of humour this is a great listen and or read.
