A girl and her mother have been on the run for sixteen years, from police and the monster they left in their kitchen with a knife in his throat.
The girl has no name, but she has a dream – for a life of love, as an artist, outside the grip of the Brisbane underworld and its drug queen 'Lady' Flora Box.
There's only one person who can help make her dreams come true: Lola. To find her, the girl with no name must do one of the hardest things we can. She must look in the mirror.

Critic reviews
'Unpredictable, fantastic… It takes a charged narrative, like Dickens achieves, and as Dalton does too, to reach the heart and the brain – writing that is able to carry both stories, the individual and the political/personal… To tell you more would spoil this complicated and surprising story.' Sydney Morning Herald
'Trent Dalton's third novel reminds me of the 1980s advertising slogan for the author's home state of Queensland: Beautiful one day, perfect the next… Lola in the Mirror is a bold, big-hearted, hopeful, humorous, dark, reflective, truthful...novel that confirms Dalton's place in all the shimmering skies (to borrow the title of his second novel) of Australian literature. He is not a rising star but a star full stop.' The Australian

What a performance !
Incredible story and brought to life by the narrator. Absolutely loved every minute ♥️. Catch myself replaying scenes in my head, I’m sure I will be listening to this again and again.

A story about caring
Loved it all. Felt I was racing along with it like the river. Made me think about who holds me up out of my river. Realised I am now seen but know what it is like to not be seen. Grateful to have Trent Dalton in my life.

Fantastic storytelling
I’ve never read any of Trent Dalton’s books before, but listening to this was such a treat. Couldn’t wait to finish work and listen. Literally couldn’t put the headphones down and it absolutely grabbed me in. This would make an amazing film

I want to go immediately and reread
This book was so beautifully written. The story was an atypical coming of age story full of drama, horror, intrigue and humour. This book reminded me of both the beauty and the ugly in the world.
Considering this book has illustration and so many visual elements the delivery of this audio book managed to capture the beauty of this and allow I immediately looked up the images, the fact that this medium covered it so thoroughly is a credit to everyone involved.

An unforgettable read
Oh man. This was brilliant. Such a well developed character. The amount of times I just wanted to reach into the pages and give her a hug and tell her everything would be alright. Not that she needed it, because my god, she is a fierce, tenacious, resilient and remarkable human. This was such a pleasure to read (the narration was so good!). I feel a little sad letting Lola go, but so much joy as well. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 from me and a definite recommendation!

Another gritty but brilliant novel
Set in the lowest parts of the underbelly of society. Tragic but hopeful, the characters are brilliant and the plot pacey

Great character based story
Entertaining, emotional and a damn good story. It kinda keeps you guessing as to what the real back story is, but that's not really what you should do anyway, just go with it and be entertained. Recommended.
