About this listen
It was love at first sight.
They were soul mates.
It was forever.
But they were only 16.
Too innocent. Too naïve.
Too ignorant about the world around them.
Besides, nothing lasts forever.
With their fairy-tale future torn to shreds, both boys need to learn to find their own way in an unforgiving world.
Gavin Buchanan is thrown into a life he didn’t want, molded to do a job he always feared. He must learn to get by, but with only his brothers in arms to lean on and secrets so deep they eat at his core every day, he struggles. How long until life in the Marine Corps turns this gentle, tenderhearted man into someone no one recognizes?
Owen Wallace is adrift and going through the motions. Every time he tries to stand tall and put the past behind him, life kicks him down. There is only so much a person can take before they turn bitter and jaded. It wasn’t supposed to be this way.
Their souls are bound to each other.
Nothing will keep them apart.
It will take time, but they just need to find their way home.
Trigger warning for PTSD.

Joy, laughter, sadness, crying - this had it all
Wow, this audiobook is amazing and what a rollercoaster of a ride it was too! What started as a typical boy meets boy romance quickly and dramatically turned into a harrowing, difficult and emotional story. Not knowing (or even guessing) what would come next just added to the story. Really well written and narrated. Off to find more from the same author... :-)

Rollercoaster
This had me crying, healing, crying, hoping over and over again. It was certainly a hard earned HEA. Great story. Mixed thoughts on the ending but still a great HEA

Deeply touching
This is again why I have this author on auto buy. How she is able to write such heartbreaking and heartwarming stories is just amazing to me.
This starts about a couple teen age guys who discover each other. This intro to their story is so heartwarming. But coming out isn’t everything anyone would hope for, especially when its your relatives who hold so much power over a child. The power Gavin’s dad uses over him is madding. The effect this has over both of these guys lives plus those around them is unforgivable. As the author takes the story down the path each guy travels made me cry more than once. I have to say the laughs are less, yet the pull between these two kept me hopeful till the end. I completely ignored sleep and a couple other things until I knew the end. The only negative part I found in the story is Gavin’s mom. Too little too late. I want to thank Nick J. Russo for his narration. He made these characters and emotions alive.

Perfect narration for this heartbreaking book
This book is the worst (in a best way) from Nicky. No other of her books can compare to this one on the level of angst this has. And to listen to this story on audio, wow.
I never and I mean never ever wanted to read this story again becaus it was that hearbreaking for the first time, but guess who's a masochist and listened to it? I can't with myself...
I wanted to cry many, many times while listening to it. The narrator did an amazingly perfect job with this book, and oh god, save my sanity, it was more than enough to listen it once. It hurts so bad.

I loved high school Owen and Gavin. They were such a cuties, they were happy and ignorant to the adult life. They biggest probleme was to find a hiding spot to kiss or make out. They were everything. They had their life planned together forever. And as they believed in it, I did too.
Then Nicky James happened... lol
I think I screamed cried and tried to throw my kindle away...countless times. But I hoped. And hoped...
The book was beautiful and heartbreaking. I loved and didn't loved at the same time.
I hurt for Owen and I hurt for Gavin. Their happiness was my number one priority, but Nicky James thought it differently...
So I still read and hoped. And screamed. A lot.
Owen and Gavin, I just wanted them to be happy. And I mean happy together, because they were meant for each other. And I couldn't wait to read finally about it!
As I said, it was a heartbreakingly beautiful book, I felt all the feelings, and I just wanted to hug Owen and Gavin and tell them that everything will be fine at the end, just wait for it. I still want to hug them and never let them go. They are the cutest and they deserve the very best in life.
Highly recommend it, just be prepared for all the feels, and get a box of tissues too!

An emotional journey
Owen and Gavin's journey blew me away. What started as a sweet exploration of young love turned into something so much more than that. Theirs was a story of dealing with the unfairness of life, of discovering who your true friends and family are, of traveling down a different path than expected but somehow still ending up exactly where you need to be. As I listened to Gavin and Owen experience the joys and pains of growing up, their story hit me on a visceral level. I felt their hope and joy and pain as deeply as my own, and while my heart ached for the innocent teenagers they left behind, there was something so fulfilling about seeing how time and circumstances shaped them into men. At times, the losses Owen and Gavin experienced made me feel like I was being ripped apart, but that same pain was what made their journey vividly real. The men they grew into had remnants of the teenagers I met in those first few chapters, but so much had changed that I did wonder if their adult selves would still have room in their hearts to love the new versions of each other. Their relationship had vicious clashes, jealous fits, misunderstandings, and long periods of separation that almost made me give up. To say their romantic journey wasn't easy is an understatement, and knowing how difficult the path was made their happily-ever-after all the more satisfying. I can't begin to describe the way these men touched my heart, and though at times I hated Nicky James for putting them through so much, I don't think I would have loved their story as much had it unfolded any other way.

Emotional challenge
Story: In typical Nicky James fashion, no punches are held and the issues the MCs face are painfully contemporary and important. My heart was in a vise grip troughout and there were so many parts that resonated deeply with me!
Great book and a prime example of the author's skills in creating an emotional wringer that leaves the reader wanting more every time.
Narration: Spot on performance from Nick J. Russo. Emotional, easy to follow and enhancing the experience.
