Summary

Lost on Purpose is the nonfiction adventure narrative of a former technology executive who took leave of the real world to reinvent himself as a 21st-century mountain man. In October-November 2013, Patrick Taylor crossed the Rocky Mountains alone on foot. He passed through one of the largest wilderness areas in the lower 48 to reach and retrace the route of Lewis and Clark in the winter. The sacrifices - vocationally, financially, emotionally - are measured against the benefits by the author in a refreshingly honest, humorous, and inspirational fashion.

Inspiring stuff!

A very engaging story of one man’s quest for meaning in his life. The story of his adventure in the wilderness is compelling and exciting but not epic. It is not about super-human feats. It isn’t about overcoming nature’s challenges. Far from it. It’s about embracing nature and reevaluating what is real life.

Wow this struck not just a chord but a whole melody.

This was a story of adventure in its purest form, not another travelogue but an inner and outer discovery. The narration was perfect to the point that when I subsequently bought the printed version afterwards I could still hear the narrators voice reading it with me. I could not put this down and immediately purchased everything I could obtain by the author (note there are more than just 1 Patrick Taylor authors out there so check first). But if you read or listen to one book only this year - make it this one.

A must read for all.

A fantastic account of Pats adventure, narrated equally as well. I very much hope there are more stories to come.

Wonderful book and narrative. What a story. I can’t spoil it. You’ll just have to listen. Another place on the bucket list 😉
