About this listen
Luke Evans reads Robert Louis Stevenson's swashbuckling tale of danger, excitement and buried treasure.
Treasure Island is one of the most gripping children's stories of all time. It describes the tale of Jim Hawkins and his attempt to find Captain Flint's legendary treasure, while foiling the infamous pirate Long John Silver.
When young Jim Hawkins discovers a map in an old sea chest, he joins the crew of the Hispaniola and sets sail for Treasure Island. Little does he know that among the crew is the dastardly Long John Silver, and Silver has a devious plan to keep the gold all to himself. Can Jim outwit the most infamous pirate ever? Will he escape from Treasure Island alive?
The story of Jim's bravery and resourcefulness - as well as his struggle to survive - features treachery and adventure on the high seas.

Extremely abridged
A good version of the story but it’s heavily abridged. I’d have preferred it to be about twice as long. Luke Evans is a good narrator

This is a little treasure!
If you could sum up Luke Evans reads Treasure Island in three words, what would they be?
Intense, savage, adventure.
What other book might you compare Luke Evans reads Treasure Island to, and why?
There is a whole series of abridged Famous Fiction: classic children's books read by British actors, all roughly an hour long, which offer excellent escapism for all listeners (and a convenient refresher on classics you may have forgotten).
Have you listened to any of Luke Evans’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Sadly Luke Evans hasn't any other performances on audible, but I'd love it if he did - he's great at creating atmosphere and psychological intrigue, and has a masterful deep tone to his voice. He distinguishes each character clearly, injects real energy into his narration and has perfect enunciation as you would expect from someone with plenty of stage experience. He pitches the tale perfectly for a family audience, not shying away from dark material but offering glimmers of hope, too. I hope he records an unabridged novel or two in future as he gives good audible!
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Fifteen men on the Dead Man's Chest, Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!
Any additional comments?
I listened to this while doing the ironing during a quiet hour over Christmas, and it captured some of that childlike Christmas magic for me!
