About this listen

Against a backdrop of enigmatic nights scattered with spoken-word poetry in London, Venice, Accra and Paris, Ekuah tries to reconcile her personal journey with the love she struggles with for Dee Emeka, a gifted musician who is both passionate and aloof in his treatment of Ekuah.

After 18 months together, he disappears from her life, confirming her worst fears about the unstable foundation of their relationship. She attempts to graduate university whilst retreating into herself, searching for new validations and preoccupations from heartbreak.

Life marches on and Ekuah finds personal fulfilment in her poetry and community work. But when she must choose between her first love and the promise of a new, unexpected love, in the form of Jay Stanley, can she handle the vulnerability and forgiveness required?

Grappling with her examples of love, Ekuah must forge her own path. With an increasingly successful career, she finds herself travelling around the world. When her rise intersects with Dee's own fame, the two are pushed to reach a final resolution.

I have to admit I had come across this book a while ago and just wasn’t sure it would be worth my 1 credit a month. However I have to say it was a great listen really delving deep and taking you on a journey.

Just a really good book

It is always so great to read a book that is about your life too. Something about being a Black woman loving Black men... I enjoyed this book. The performance was ok, I didn't love it but it was ok. otherwise, I enjoyed this so much. Thank you.

This story resonated so deeply

I don't normally like romance, but this was refreshing and too real. It's hilarious, sexy and at times emotionally devastating, the narration is clear and compelling, I'm so glad I gave it a shot.

Beautiful story about messy love

Listened to the entire thing in a weekend and the book had my attention the entire time - great relatable listen.

Lovely weekend listened

Slow start to the book, but once part 2 started it flowed well. Looks into the complicated relationships of a young woman whose family and love life seem to mirror itself. I needed to speed up the narration as it was frustratingly slow, but this made it a pleasant read.

thoroughly enjoyed listening with audiible, a story of finding love that keeps you gripped to the end.

A great read

This is basically a young adult book, which should be noted in its description. I found it excessively wordy, with some almost pompously overblown descriptions of very ordinary, day-to-day exchanges between human beings, in their ordinary, day-to-day lives. Essentially, nothing much happens. it's a drawn-out love story, with not very likeable characters. Vivienne Acheampong reads it almost dutifully, sometimes sounding like a student reading an essay in class.
I'm sorry to say that I found it all fairly mediocre.

A lot of words
