Summary

Winner of the IPG Zebralution Audio Award 2023

Shortlisted for Best Narrator at the Audio Production Awards 2022

A dazzling 'tell-most' memoir: poignant and laugh-out-loud funny scenes from the life of actor Minnie Driver.

I love stories. I have mostly told other people's but now, in telling my own, I realize how all our stories are connected by that great leveller of acclaim, loss, fortitude, and fortune: being human.

When I look at my life from the alleged halfway point, some patterns are revealed: one, that the story does not necessarily begin or end where it should; two, happy endings are overrated. And three, happy endings are almost never the end.

This book is memoir-ish. A tell-most. Largely because there's a lot I don't remember, and a lot that's not worth talking about.

So, this is a collection of stories about how things not working out - worked out in the end. How reaching for the dream is easily more interesting, expansive, sad and funny than the dream itself coming true.

I really hope you enjoy it.

Love, Minnie x

English and Witty but..

l loved the story the whole way through ,Minnie has a beautiful way with words and I really liked her.. funny and warm ..but Ye God's it was spoilt at the end by the pretentious interview , it was completely not needed, the book was good, actually great enough, without that ,I really wish she just hadn't 😯

Surprisingly exciting autobiography.

Great listen. Dipped in and out but easy to follow. Could have done without the singing.

Great Listen

So glad I chose audio for this book, Minnie reads it beautifully. She has a great writing style and her stories - and her descriptions of them - are articulate, quirky and often verge on poetic. I hope she turns her hand to script writing…she’d make a great addition to the British line up of film writers.

Brava Minnie!

An absolutely brilliant book! Listened on Audible and romped through it. So lovely to hear you read it in your beautiful voice. Made me laugh out loud and fill with tears. Wish it had been longer :)

A joy to hear

This is not your traditional autobiography, then I did this, then I did that.

This is so much more, a beautifully written, carefully crafted series of moments in time that minnie tells in an enchanting way to help you give a clear snapshot into her life.

It's a pure joy to listen to and I can't reccomend highly enough!

Beautifully Humble & Real

I devoured this book. Listening to Minnie Driver tell her story, recall her past and being all the characters within it to life through her acting talent, taking on their voices, putting the reader through so many emotions - a real treat. It’s as if I was sitting in a room with Minnie. I laughed and I laughed hard. I felt the pain of sadness too, sharing in Minnie’s emotional journey in Daffodils. Hearing her suppress her pain and tears just made my own heart ache and my eyes well up with tears. There’s real value in hearing an author narrate their story. Here’s hoping she’ll write another and share some more of herself with us.

interesting

She has quietly interested me over the years so I thought I’d give the book a go. I really enjoyed it. I liked the format of almost essays rather than a …. I was born then I did this and met him…. Etc timeline. I liked that she did not dish the Hollywood dirt; there are so many more interesting things and people in her life than just that aspect of it. Her family and upbringing are so different to what I know and it’s fascinating to see how she tackles life as a result of what shaped her. The final chapter regarding her mother’s death was moving and well written. I also loved her reading of the book, one of the best I’ve heard.
Thank you and looking forward to what you do next.

The audio book bar is set

The most beautifully written and poetically performed audio book I have listened to. Yes her profession lends itself to this, as she discusses at the end, but I hung on every word. But performance aside, I loved listening to Minnie's story. I loved getting in her head, Her analysis of life's experiences. Her head and heart explorations. I loved it. So many parts were relatable for me too and struck a cord. I'm hoping to ride out what is to come, as pragmatically, emotionally aware and graceful as she seems to have.
