Summary

In June 2004, 16-year-old Liam Kelly was lured to a location in Liverpool in the early hours of one morning and shot dead. The following year, another Liverpudlian, 22-year-old mother of three Lucy Hargreaves, was shot dead in her own home. Her partner and their two-year-old daughter escaped after the house was set alight by leaping from a first-floor bedroom window.

For more than 15 years, six-foot six-inch, broadly built, ginger-haired Kevin Parle has been wanted by the police for both murders. How could he have evaded national and international crime investigators for so long? Who is harbouring him?

Author and former Scotland Yard detective and undercover cop Peter Bleksley is determined to find the answers. He has immersed himself again in the world of serious and organised crime, this time armed only with a pen, a notebook and a mobile phone. He has vowed not to rest until Parle is found.

This gripping story goes behind the scenes of the hit BBC Sounds podcast Manhunt: Finding Kevin Parle.

Brilliant

I’m a big fan of Peter anyhow and I’ve a Police and investigative background like him.

This book / investigation is well written in regards to the amount of red tape and obstacles that are in the way which stop things being able to be described / actions undertaken etc

I was however let down by the constant problem with the book switching from stereo to mono. It may be because this was done during lockdown on equipment not in a studio (I don’t know) but non the less this is great.

I would love to be his left hand man

Interesting read

I enjoyed this audiobook but the volume changed throughout so I had to keep adjusting my device. A bit annoying and I'm sure it's something that could easily be sorted out.

Informative and entertaining

Having listened to every episode of the Finding Kevin Parl podcast, I felt that I might be listening to the same info over again in this book. However, this wasn't the case. There were parts of the book that I had heard about before, but they were not just repeated from the podcast; this is the story behind the podcast and I feel it is more a companion to it, giving much more detail to not only the hunt for Parl but the processes and thinking behind the hunt and hunting fugitives in general. I particularly enjoyed reading the parts about Liverpool, it being my home city, and the parts about Spain, as I also have strong family connections there, so this was added interest for me. I personally find Peter Blecksley to be a fascinating character and like his general attitude to life and his willingness to laugh at himself. The book is very funny as well as being obviously serious and very sad in parts. I found Peter Blecksley's views on policing, drugs and other aspects of society he touches on very interesting. All in all, I found this book very entertaining and easy to listen to but thought provoking and informative regarding the criminals of this world and the people who try to catch them.

If only there were more coppers like Peter.

I hope you find this man and he’s held to account, if you don’t it won’t be because you’ve not worked for it.

Solid story but hindered slightly by audio technical issues?

Enjoyed listening to this story, that is humbly written and narrated in a self-deprecating manner, about a stimulating subject. At around 8 hours I actually listened to it entirely in two sittings whilst driving. It kept me entertained and the true stories and insights to this hunt was genuinely entertaining and insightful, being aided by being narrated by the author.

The only downside is the audio between chapters switching to left channel only. I thought this might have been my car, so tried it separately through my iPhone’s ear buds, and then on a different device. Still the same. 50% of the chapters at least only play through one audio channel, and whilst not devastating, did detract slightly from the story.

Okay

Not to bad but it's a bit long winded in places. The author reads it well though
