About this listen

Mary Bennet is alone with her parents.

Three sisters are married, another living away. Now is her chance to emerge from their shadows. Becoming more confident, she begins to make new friends.

Among them are a number of eligible young men. But none of them leads to a marriage and security for Mary, as her family members intervene. Fortunately, her heart is untouched by them.

After her father's death, Mary and her mother move to a cottage, where her mother continues her complaints. Lydia returns, and elopes with another of Mary's suitors. Only after her mother's death is Mary finally able to look forward to a happy future. Among them are a number of eligible young men.

This could be one of the best narrators ever- what a find!

Mary gets to grow up, see friends come and go, see off the wrong men, and triumph in the end. While most of us wish we were Jane or Lizzie, we are probably mostly the ‘awkward one’, Mary, at least for a few years of our teens! Mary in this book is influenced against her own best interests by others’ selfishness, conscious or otherwise.
Eventually she gets her reward with a man all of us can respect.

I can see a blissful future for her at last. I wish they’d got there sooner, and that we knew more of the personality of Dr Watson, but I thoroughly enjoyed this!

Realistic story with brilliant narration
