About this listen
Despite this, he still finds time for some amateur sleuthing, even though his policewoman "Significant Other", DS Jacquie Carpenter, has decided that, this time, he's leaving any murder investigations to her. But how can he refuse when the school photographer asks for his help after accidentally photographing a murder on the beach?
Their discovery of a body buried in the sand dunes sets in motion a chain of events that only the redoubtable Mad Max can break. One thing is certain - life in Leighford will never be the same.

MJ Trow writes a compelling story
The Maxwell books are well narrated with excellent plot development and you never guess the way the plot developing or who dunnit! I have worked in schools and find the books to also be very funny at times making me 'laugh out loud' The Maxwell books and the Lestrade books our some of my favorite stories that i have listened too.

Please get on with it!
Having seen both its ratings and resumé I was really looking forward to listening to this book. The start of the book did not disappoint. However as time went on I more and more often found myself thinking “get on with it”! The main narrative seemed to me to be too padded out with background detail of the life of the eponymous character; whilst this was sometimes amusing (some very good one liners) I increasingly found it extremely annoying.
I persevered for most of the first part of the download but unfortunately one too many “get-on-with-its” defeated me and I am afraid I gave up. If like me, you prefer your crime mysteries to be page turners, then this book may not be for you. If on the other hand you prefer them to be more like a long soak in a hot bath then it may well be what you are looking for.
I realise that I will never now find out whodunit – but frankly by the time I gave up I had forgotten what “it” was!
