A dream team of narrators
The second book in the Dragons of Ember Hollow trilogy with Midnight of Ashes picking up the action immediately where the previous book left things. With all the customary action readers have come to expect from this author, the tension and suspense continues to build as the threats towards the heroine Hayden keep coming. New characters are introduced including a shifter clan whose leader seems to know more about Hayden’s past than he’s prepared to let on although after reading this book I have my own suspicions about her parentage, and I can’t wait to find out if I’m right. After a slow burn start, the various bonds between Hayden and her five dragons are deepening with only one still holding out, leading to some seriously steamy shenanigans. All before ending on another WTF cliffhanger. If I didn’t know Tessa Hale will bring this story to a climatic conclusion tying off all the loose ends, I’d be seriously upset with her right now.
As with Twilight of Embers, multiple narration is once again provided by Vanessa Moyens, Joe Arden, Jason Clarke, Connor Crais, Teddy Hamilton and Jacob Morgan, all personal favourites of mine. For me, each of these artistes is capable of bringing an audiobook to life but together they took Midnight of Ashes to a whole new level. Their performances blended together smoothly making it easy to distinguish between the individual characters. Hopefully the same cast will voice the final book in this trilogy.

💜 BOOK REVIEW 💜
Midnight of Ashes by Tessa Hale
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
After *that* cliffhanger left my girl Hayden in peril, I’ve been counting down the days until Midnight of Ashes and it was worth the wait. What a book! It grabbed me by the throat from the first sentence and to say I’m obsessed is an understatement.
Midnight of Ashes is the second book in the Dragons of Ember Hollow series and continues where book one left off. We follow Hayden as she settles into her new life at Ember Hollow and gets to grips (quite literally!) with the realisation that the five hot guys she’s drawn to are her dragon shifting fated mates. But not everyone is happy that Hayden and her bond mates are growing closer, and they must navigate unwanted interest from the dragon council, rival dragon hoardes and bullying mean girls, while danger lurks behind every corner.
Tessa’s books are the perfect escapism and tick all of my fantasy boxes – protective alpha heroes (multiple in this case), strong heroines, fated mates and great world building. Midnight of Ashes brings all of this in spades along with drama, politics, action, romance and the most delicious spice! And did I mention FIVE dragon boyfriends?
The characterisation is first class and the dialogue is so natural that I felt like I was reading about real people. Science obsessed brainiac Hayden captured my heart with her quiet strength, empathy and fierce protectiveness of her mates. Even when her guys were acting out, she was able to see their underlying pain, and soothe them. There’s a special place in my heart for all five of the guys, who are completely different, but beautifully complement each other and call to all of Hayden’s needs. Hayden was the missing piece in their found family and she slotted in perfectly. Lucky girl.
Hayden and her mates are united in the trauma they’ve experienced and as their bond deepens, we see them start to open up to each other and begin to heal. Cael in particular shows great character growth and I just wanted to give him a hug! Maddox and Easton’s hard exteriors start to crumble and I can’t wait to see more of them in book three. It’s always the quiet ones . .
Let’s talk about the spice . . . it really ramps up in this one and I was here for it! Hayden’s relationship with each of her mates is at a different stage, so we’re treated to everything from slow burn chemistry, angst and pining, to full on passion. The full spectrum of romantic perfection! There’s a great balance between the romance and the plot which was laden with nail biting drama, politics and plenty of growly “Who did this to you” moments. And in true Tessa fashion, we’re hit with another brutal cliffhanger, so come prepared!
Midnight of Ashes is a page turning masterpiece of passion, drama, and dragon boyfriends and I can’t recommend it enough. This is your next favourite paranormal series!
Audio review:
I read the book and then went straight on to listen to the audio and what a treat it was! The narrator list reads like a ‘who’s who’ of talented romance narrators including all of my favourites). The narration takes the story to a whole new level, amplifying all of the drama, action, angst and passion as it unfolds and expertly bringing the characters to life. I fell in love with Hayden and her mates all over again as I listened to it!

Insanely good!
I really enjoyed the first book in this series and pre ordered this title, patiently waiting for its release. But after this book, I’ll be counting the days until I can read the next one.
I feel connected to all the characters and I’m invested in what is to come for them. The mc is so likeable, you can’t help but root for her after the life she has lead up until she met the five men that changed her life forever. And those five men… they’re everything I would want them to be and more. Such different personalities but together they are chefs kiss.
This series is the first I’ve read of Tessa Hales, now I’m hooked and will be going on a deep dive in the hopes for more of this writing that leaves you wanting more!!!
Plus the audio version is incredible. The narrators have it nailed, I couldn’t imagine anyone else could have narrated it better.
Highly, highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wow!
Loved the first book and was eager to pick up this one after the cliffhanger in book one. This one didn’t disappoint. Filled with the same tension, drama, angst and romance as book one. Love Hayden and her men, all of them are so different but bring so much harmony to their unit. There is another cliffhanger in this too!
The audio version is incredible, love the casting as it brings this story to life. It’s like being transported to a different world and the duet version makes it so authentic. Loved anything about this
