About this listen

This is the story of Barbara and Larry Savage's sometimes dangerous, often zany, but ultimately rewarding 23,000-mile global bicycle odyssey, which took them through 25 countries in two years. Miles from Nowhere is an adventure not to be missed!

Along the way, these near-neophyte cyclists encountered warmhearted strangers eager to share food and shelter, bicycle-hating drivers who shoved them off the road, various wild animals (including a roof ape and an attack camel), sacred cows, rock-throwing Egyptians, overprotective Thai policeman, motherly New Zealanders, meteorological disasters, bodily indignities, and great personal joys. The stress of traveling together constantly for two years tested and ultimately strengthened the young couple's relationship.

As their trip ends, you'll find yourself yearning for Barbara and Larry to mount back up and keep pedaling. It's a story that makes you feel like you've grown right along with the author.

Well read, great stories and interesting content, one of the best cycling books I have ever read

Narrator, stories and bringing the countries to life. The accents of British and New Zealand could do with some work though

a remarkable story, this is what I would call a classic.

an absolutely fabulous tale of adventure.
writen well and set in what could be classed as the golden era of world travel and cycling touring.

the story is told well and narrated equally the same.
everyone should take the time to relive Barbara Savage trip and be apart of her journey she certainly tells it like you are there with her.

Timeless classic

A beautiful cycling travelogue well read. Accents were sketchy, but that added to the charm.

This book made me want to up my cycling Game.

A brilliantly written story, which compelled me to keep reading even when I wanted to give up a few times because of the narrators terrible accents, Geof the New Zealander was the worst I have ever heard, part really bad cockney with a scottish twang at times and mixtures of constipated girl and boy kneed in the testicles, it was dreadful and ruined what was a thoroughly enjoyable book otherwise,
