Mrs. Matilda (Matty) Frogerton sees this as an opportunity to introduce her own rather wild daughter, Dorothy, to the ton, and Caroline is eager to see her sister, who as a child lives with their aunt.
But all is not well at the Greenwood estate. For one thing, Lady Caroline's former fiancé, Lord Francis Chatham, is a guest and refuses to speak to her. Far worse, after a series of troubling harassments of the staff, an elderly family member is found stabbed by a knitting needle.
As Caroline and an unexpected ally—Mrs. Frogerton—attempt to solve the chilling crime, they discover the culprit may be leaving bizarre clues as to who will be next in the nursery. But they must make haste, for this heartless killer is engaged in anything but child's play . . .

Interesting
Quite nice actually. Not the best mistery i have ever read but still caracters are interesting enough for me to continue the series. The narrator is okay.

Interesting mystery!
I liked the twists and turns- the puzzle is truly maddening like a murder mystery should be.
I disliked the strange voice the narrator uses for the main character- sort of flat. Every remark is in exactly the same intonation whether it’s a joke or in anger or whatever. Devoid of personality, whilst the other characters are well done. Strange.
I also found there were frequent anachronisms in language- words and phrases not used at the time, like ‘gotten’ and ‘heading towards’. Irritating.
I did actually like the exploration of oppressive charity- with strings. Very well done!

Excellent story.
I gave this book a go as it was free - the characters are interesting and the narration was excellent too - am off to buy books two and three - can’t wait.

Improbable but entertaining.
Despite lots of far-fetched and improbable moments in the story, "Miss Morton and the English House Party" is an entertaining country house murder mystery following the fate of an impoverished and disgraced young noblewoman.

Good tale well told
To be honest, I found the narrator a bit of getting used to. But once that was done the story took off and was very enjoyable. I was delighted to know that this book is the first in a series featuring Caroline Morton and have already bought number 2. Will keep you updated!

Annie Aldington is one of my favourite narrators...
So l surmised the book would've been good. I guessed right.
Period Era! Actually loved it.
And it was my favourite price: FREE

Not a fan
Good outcome but it took a long time to get there. Most of the characters were deliberately unlikeable but the main one, Miss Martyr was the worst. Oh poor her blah blah. The narration was inconsistent with a couple of scenes where it wasn’t clear who was speaking and a narrator who had a tendency to make a duchess sound like Barbara Windsor. In the end this was free and passed a day of being ill so there’s that.
