About this listen

Two lost souls find love in this heartfelt historical romance from New York Times best-selling author LaVyrle Spencer.

In town, they called her "Crazy Widow Dinsmore". But Elly was no stranger to their ridicule - she had been an outsider all her life, growing up in a boarded-up old house under the strict eye of her eccentric grandparents. Now she was all alone, with two little boys to raise, and a third child on the way.

Will Parker drifted into Whitney, Georgia, one lazy afternoon in the summer, hoping to put his lonely past behind him. He yearned for the tenderness he had never known, the home he'd never had. All he needed was for someone to give him a chance.

Then he saw her classified ad: WANTED - A husband. When he stepped across Elly Dinsmore's cluttered yard, Will knew he had come home at last....

This book is so beautifully written, although it felt a bit slow at times it felt like that only added to the feeling of this story. The environmental descriptions throughout the book are top notch and made it easy to imagine being right there, in the middle of both the characters home, the town and big cities. And of course, the absolutely beautiful love story is epic in a life like way. It truly feels like it could be about a real couple that are determined to keep loving each other and their life despite hardships. I started this book to lazily listen to before bed, because I expected it to be boring and put me to sleep, but although the pace is calmer in portions I ended up staying up listening way too late for most of the book.

New favourite comfort-book.

This was a fantastic book. Sad it has finished. Beautifully written and amazing, relatable characters. The narration was also excellent.

A beautiful story

It was an entertaining listen but the characters lacked depth. I also wasn't a fan of the voice actor, she did well with the female characters but her take on Will Parker was bad. She made him sound too feminine and soft spoken. I couldn't picture him properly throughout due to this.

Almost Great
