About this listen

When a young man is found hanging inside the Ashford family tomb, Redmond and Haze assume the man had run afoul of the noble family and paid for it with his life. Once they identify the remains, they discover not only the victim’s shocking secrets but that the young man had an unexpected connection to Jason.

With few leads and no obvious motive for the murder, will Redmond and Haze solve the case before the killer claims another life?

Thank you for putting this whole series on audible plus. By this far into the series you are happy because you know exactly what you are going to get, a good narrator, a story that moves at pace and characters that you have grown to know.

Just what you expect

This is my favourite so far, the story is gripping and it was only towards the end that I had solved the mystery.
I do think Daniel's attitude towards Sarah is not typical of the character that has developed. I feel bad for her

my favourite of the series so far

ssssooo disappointed!... that it's the last book!!

I do enjoy these books. They rattle along set in the latter half of the nineteenth century but it never seems to matter quite when and period detail definitely comes second to plot. They’re enjoyably inventive in bumping people off and the solution to the mystery always fits, no matter how out there. However! And it’s a biggie. The narrator drives me mad. Her inflection is odd, she can’t do London accents or indeed many others and I have to play the books at faster speed than normal or her drawling would be unbearable.

Cheesy good fun but…

First thing first: as I have disliked the narrator since book 1, this time I followed the suggestion of another reader a set a slightly faster speed on app and I must say that, for me, it was an improvement.

The plot of this book is interesting, touching situations that in 2025 are normal, but obviously were not at all common in the second half of the 19th century.

I do miss a little bit the countryside setting since the latest book are all about murders in London, but I’m keen on listening to the next book because this series is really good company while doing boring (but necessary) house chores.

Good plot, easy to follow
