About this listen

Let bestselling author T.A. Williams transport you to Tuscany in this gripping murder mystery

A remote retreat…

Nestled high in the Tuscan hills lies Villa Volpone, home to renowned crime writer Jonah Moore and his creative writing course. It’s also the last place retired DCI Dan Armstrong expected to spend his retirement! Dan’s no writer, but maybe this break will help him to think about the next chapter in his own life story?

A gruesome murder…

But only days into the course, Jonah Moore is found stabbed to death with his award-winning silver dagger! And Dan finds himself pulled out of retirement with a killer to catch.

Eleven possible suspects.

The other guests all seem shocked by Jonah’s death, but Dan knows that one of them must be lying. And as he and Italian Inspector Virgilio Pisano begin to investigate it quickly becomes clear that everyone at Villa Volpone has secrets to hide…

But can Dan discover who the murderer is before they strike again?

Perfect for fans of Lee Strauss and Beth Byers.

Very enjoyable- I hope there is a follow up.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Even though there was murder involved it seemed very genteel and uplifting. It was just what I needed after listening to a book I found to be quite unexpectedly distressing. Please write a follow on series. Simon Mattaks was an excellent narrator - he’s a keeper.

Easy to listen to

I enjoyed this, being set in Tuscany added to the interest and the main characters were likeable, apart from the victim who definitely wasn’t!

Tuscan flavoured cozy crime

An entertaining, amusing mystery. Loved the Italian setting, with top marks for the narration.

loved it

It is always a good start when you like the narrator. I haven't heard Simon Mattacks narrate before and he has a lovely voice. He makes each person stand out from the rest.
the story was about a newly retired police inspector treated by his colleagues to a writers class in Tuscany. He is writing a book so he decides to see how things pan out. He is shocked to find it is about including sexual content. He is tempted to quit, but starts getting to meet the others on the course.
He settles in and a murder takes place ........ and of course he solves the crime by helping the local police. He acquires a dog and a new life.
I really enjoyed it and was delightede to see there are more in the series. I will definitely be downloading those.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Simply brilliant!

Story telling at its best. An engaging plot, filled with humour and a whole variety of characters! It had me laughing and smiling as I walked my dogs at times, yet I kept guessing as to who and why. Right to the end! This author is going to cost me money……🫣😁
