About this listen

The discovery of a young woman’s body drifting down the Thames, her hair adorned with flowers and her legs wrapped in blue silk like a mermaid’s tail, presents Lord Jason Redmond and Inspector Daniel Haze with a puzzling new mystery. Who was she, why was she murdered, and what led the killer to leave her body displayed this way? Was it an act of love, meant to make the victim appear beautiful in death, or was there a more sinister reason?

As Redmond and Haze delve deeper into her life, they learn that the victim harbored shocking secrets and had crossed paths with a feared kingpin of London’s criminal underworld.

Will Redmond and Haze solve the murder before the killer strikes again?

Brilliant book & narration

I found this audiobook as I am a huge fan of Alex Lee's narration. Loved the way Irina's writing evoked the atmosphere and some of the underworld characters of Victorian London , All brought to life so vividly by Alex's voice acting skills. A winning combination !!
I appreciate we all like different voices but there is no way anyone could or should say that the narration was 'terrible' ! Alex Lee is perfect for this book and i loved it.

Disappointing.

The story was good with a twist that kept me guessing. However, the narration was very distracting. At times there was very little difference between the ‘character voices’ and the narrator. I also found the narrator’s voice a little grating.

why change narrator after 10 books???

I love this series but why the change of narrator?? It totally threw me when I began listening, although she tried there were so many times when the character's voices didn't change which broke the story at one point 2 men where talking and narration was included but the voice was never changed!
Another really good plot and story but PLEASE bring back the original narrator

enjoyed this one but...

Why change narrator? this one is poor, no difference in the characters' accents etc. very distracting as the voice is too husky.

Hooked from the start!

Any change of actor takes a bit of getting used to. However I was soon engrossed with the story and by the end had completely forgotten the previous narrator. Great all round! Looking forward to the next book!

Excellent

Preferred the old narrator. The new one’s accents aren’t as good and seems to get muddled from character to character.

Disappointing narration

Although the previous narrator of the Redmond and Hayes books (Wendy Wolfson) is not the best at men’s voices, I find the narrator of this book (Alex Lee) very poor. I have enjoyed the series so far but due to the narration this one is very disappointing.

poor narration

I was hoping that a new narrator would be better than the last one; sadly, this was not the case, and the new one is even worse.
The narration is ok at times, but for quite a lot, the narrator seems to want to just get through it as quickly as possible, rushing it and making all characters sound the same. When she does slow down it's not so bad.
The story was quite good, though, so I persevered; I don't know if I will be bothering with the others yet, though.
