Verity Beresford is worried about her husband. Oliver didn’t come home last night so of course Verity goes straight to Judith Potts, Marlow’s resident amateur sleuth, for help. Oliver, founder of the Marlow Amateur Dramatic Society, had hired The Marlow Belle, a private pleasure cruiser, for an exclusive party with the MADS committee but no one remembers seeing him disembark. And then Oliver’s body washes up on the Thames with two bullet holes in him – it’s time for the Marlow Murder Club to leap into action.

Oliver was a rather complicated chap and he wasn’t short of enemies. Judith, Suzie, and Becks are convinced they’ll crack the case in no time. But things are not as they seem in the Marlow Amateur Dramatic Society, and the gang will need to keep their wits about them, otherwise a killer may sail away scot-free …

Fun but not quite as good as the previous ones. Guessed many of the twists well in advance and found the dialogue wearing in places, which surprised me as it’s never something I’ve noticed before. It’s still enjoyable but not the same level as the first three.

Fun but…

everyone could have done it everyone have a motive and everyone have been proved guilty in theory at one time or another, so I found myself loosing interest somewhat towards the end, so by the time we did get to the grand unveiling of who done it I was left slightly underwhelmed with who did it and why and how they did, so I would have to say it wasn't as good as the other three, though I'm looking forward to the next book.

slightly drawnout storyline, quicker conclusion would have been nice

I like the characters, narrator and ease of listen. I live near the area as well so can picture a lot of the book. Looking forward to the next one!

The MADS (Marlow Amateur Dramatic Society) are putting on a play and to celebrate their history, they've invited one of their old players, and now famous back to celebrate. It all goes badly wrong when one of them washes up dead.

Can Judith, Suzie and Becks solve the mystery that has so many suspects?

This was a great continuation of the series, I liked the characters and I guessed a couple of things but was wrong on others, making it a great listen with a feel-good factor

Enjoyable listen

The narration is first class at bringing the characters and action to life, the main characters are now well established and likeable, the setting in Marlow is comfortably homely, and on embarking on the story you know you are going on a reassuringly safe traditional English murder mystery.

Super cosy murder mystery in Marlow

Tantalising and imaginative writing. Unbelievable yet believable characters unfold their quirks, thanks to the brilliant talent of the writer. Enough red herrings to make a really good catch at the end. I loved the atmosphere that was evoked in the descriptions of the settings. Pleasing balm for the soul. Everything gets tidied up and yet it gets to feel real while I escaped into the unreal, real world created.

Character led delight.
