Summary

One of the very best Christie mysteries read by Hercule Poirot himself, David Suchet.

Just after midnight, a snowdrift stopped the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train was surprisingly full for the time of the year. But by the morning there was one passenger fewer. An American lay dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside.

With tension mounting, detective Hercule Poirot comes up with not one, but two solutions to the crime.

Critic reviews

“Need it be said – the little grey cells solve once more the seemingly insoluble. Mrs Christie makes an improbable tale very real, and keeps her readers enthralled and guessing to the end.” Times Literary Supplement

“A brilliantly ingenious story.” Dorothy L. Sayers, Daily Herald

“Ingenuity at its height … the idea is utterly novel, the setting a model of realism, and the characters a versatile, attractive crew.” Woman’s Journal

“A piece of classic workmanship .. exquisite and wholly satisfying.” News Chronicle

Excellent once more

Another brilliantly narrated Poirot novel. David Suchet is unrivalled as the Belgian detective.
Would definitely recommend.

The narration is so well done

The narrator performed as all the characters so exceptionally. The tale was excellent no doubt. That ending is definitely one of its kind.

A Classic for all to read

The story unquestionably brilliant, however, i would say voices are the most jaring of the experience, though all characters are unique they share a disbelief due to the absurdity of some of them being performed. This hurts an otherwise brilliant book, especially as all characters in text are believable but when acted out in audio form it seems ridiculous. On the otherhand, despite all of this it is a must read for all mystery fans, only to be topped in my humble opinion by 'And then there were none' by Agatha Christie, another classic of hers.

Wonderful

Overall performance was magnificent. The only peculiar thing was David Suchet didn't use the same accent for Poirot as in the television series but that is a minor gripe. Well worth buying.

Classic Christie

I have always adored David Suchet as Hercule Poirot, so, his narration of this classic case is just fantastic. I enjoyed every second.

Wonderful...

What made the experience of listening to Murder on the Orient Express the most enjoyable?

I've read the book, saw the film/tv program, listened to the radio play but this was such a joy. No one can do Poirot like David Suchet although if I ever hear this book read by Peter Ustinov I may change my mind. Each character was given a unique voice be it male or female without going over the top. Wonderful.

What other book might you compare Murder on the Orient Express to, and why?

Any of Agathas as they all have twists and turns and are full of interesting characters.

What does David Suchet bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Within this reading I came across little bits of the plot that I couldn't remember when I read the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to it in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

A timeless who dun it which will be revisited.

My first Agatha Christie and I loved it

My first Agatha Christie and I loved it.

I picked this up because I wanted something short, sharp, absorbing, and plotty, but also not too dark, and I would say this fitted the bill perfectly.

I have also always had a thing about sleeper trains,I I find the idea of them really romantic. However, my personal circumstances mean I am very unlikely to find myself on one, so I have to live vicariously through others.

Having said that, I am glad I wasn't on this particular journey because being stuck in a snow drift would be the least of my worries.

MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS

Great storyline . Agatha Christie has an excellent imagination. Poor Porto
can take even rest from one case before being thrown into another
