About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Master storyteller and internationally bestselling author Christopher Paolini returns to the World of Eragon in this stunning epic fantasy set a year after the events of the Inheritance Cycle.
The world is no longer safe for the Dragon Rider Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn. An evil king has been toppled, and they are left to face the consequences of the reluctant role they played in his reign of terror.
Now they are hated and alone, exiled to the outskirts of society. Throughout the land, hushed voices whisper of brittle ground and a faint scent of brimstone in the air - and Murtagh senses that something wicked lurks in the shadows of Alagaësia. So begins an epic journey into lands both familiar and untravelled, where Murtagh and Thorn must use every weapon in their arsenal, from brains to brawn, to find and outwit a mysterious witch. A witch who is much more than she seems.
In this gripping novel starring one of the most popular characters from Christopher Paolini's blockbuster Inheritance Cycle, a Dragon Rider must discover what he stands for in a world that has abandoned him. Murtagh is the perfect book to enter the World of Eragon for the first time...or to joyfully return.

Perfect!
The number of books I’ve read trying to relive the world of Alagaësia makes me sick! Nothing compares to this world of dragons and magic it is in a league of its own. So happy to be returning to it after so long (and many re-reads of the OG series), please write at least 10 more books, it still won’t be enough but it should take a minute to get through! Also, this would be an insane tv series, as long as you can find a production team the sticks to the book 100% because they butchered the eragon film

Loved uveck.
I think uveck would make a fantastic rider in the future so I hope to hear more of him. The whole book was fantastic but if I had to pick somthing that stood out it was definitely the brother hood between certain characters, if you know you know. Thank you Christopher once again.

Effortlessly enchanting.
A magnificent return to the world of Alagaesia. Setting, theme, symbolism and characterisation are wonderful.
Murtagh and Thorn are fully realised and still leave us wanting to know what happens next.
I thoroughly enjoyed this epic tale of redemption, brotherhood, bravery and soul searching.
The performance was great too. Absolutely spell binding.

Lovely and interesting story
Didn’t we all wonder what happened to Murtagh after the inheritance cycles? Finally some answers in a thrilling story.

Good Beginning to a New Perspective on Alagaesia
Loved the storyline. Initially I was worried as I felt it was a bit of a grind to get through (spoiler?) the interaction between Murtagh and Essie. Though from a different perspective, I felt it was extremely similar to the Knife the Witch and the Wyrm rendition, with no great revelations making it worthwhile. I was therefore worried the book would be a 'remake' of Paulini's existing works with a few small changes.
It was well worth keeping on as the book produced a captivating storyline from then on, raising many tantalising questions making me thirsty for more.
I'm glad that Murtagh and Thorn are not as all knowing, all powerful and matured as Eregon and Sapphira. I look forward to the development of Thorn and Murtagh in future stories. I also look forward to the further development of the world of Alagaesia as so many mysterious places, creatures and characters have yet to be fully explored or revealed.
Overall, a fantastic addition to the story of Alagaesia with the same reader (Gerard Doyle) making the story, pronunciation and intonation of characters consistent.

Excellent entry into the inheritance cycle
I didn’t know this book was even a thing until it popped up on my audible list. I’m so glad it did. I grew up with Eragon and the other books. So it was great to come back to the world of dragon riders again and catch up with some old friends. I love what Christopher has done with Murtagh and in particular Thorn. Very unique and interesting.
Can’t wait for more entries into the world.

Different view.
It’s nice to get a view of alagaesia from Murtaughs view, and to see a story based around him and Thorn.
As with the inheritance cycle books, it’s a great listen, and well worth the price.
