Summary
Our greatest fear is the fear of the unknown.
We've all had that feeling at some point, that gnawing, gut-wrenching fear that comes from our desire to know, and at the same time, not to know.
When it comes to a paranormal encounter, we try to rationalize that what is happening isn't real. How could it be? Ghosts, aliens, monsters - they aren't real...right? It must be something rational. We try to explain things to make ourselves feel safe. We try to believe that the world is still normal. But sometimes...it's not.
In My Creepy Paranormal Story: Scary Stories Inspired by Real Encounters with Ghosts, Creatures, and the Unknown, we plunge deep into the terrifying world of the supernatural in a bone-chilling anthology of paranormal encounters from people who've experienced the unexplainable. These spooky selections are all based on alleged real encounters of first-hand experiences - stories so strange, they will have you questioning the world you thought you knew.
From ghosts, to extraterrestrials, to unknown creatures lurking in the dark, you'll be on the edge of your seat as you take an unfiltered trip through the horrifying realms of the paranormal and beyond.
David Hann and H. J. Tidy share these stories in an entertaining way while still maintaining the realism that makes them truly bloodcurdling to listen to. Guaranteed you'll finish this book with more questions than answers as we guide you through these scary stories.
Written in an easy-to-follow, hauntingly gritty, and incredibly gripping style, laced with a deliciously dark feeling of unsettling possibility, each of the stories in this collection transport you to places of mystery and otherworldliness, where real encounters with the supernatural have been documented. The first-person narrative leaves you feeling as if you are inside the story, part of the terror, and wrapped in ghostly arms of diverse experiences of the paranormal.

enjoyable but not scary
The stories in this collection are a mix of interesting and sometimes a bit silly, there's very little creep factor to most of them.
the narrator does their best to give levity to the stories they are telling but they just don't feel believable which is why it's a 4 not a 5 star.
I enjoyed this book but didn't find any of the stories scary so which was disappointing but other than that it was a nice listen.

The title says it all!
I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
Subtitled "Scary Stories Inspired by Real Encounters with Ghosts, Creatures and the Unknown" the book purports to offer eleven tales based on true accounts. Of course this claim stretches credibility quickly, with many of the stories keeping only cursory acquaintance with reality, but every story is entertaining and some, well, some are genuine rather creepy.
With themes ranging from ghosts to aliens, and a great deal in between, there is sure to be something for everyone in these eleven tales. Each story in generally presented as an anecdote, with few having what we might think of as a "proper ending", but this isn't the flaw you might first take it for. Some of the stories work extremely well, and I found myself considering their implications long after the story was over ("Tell Me Your Name", my favourite story, immediately comes to mind).
There’s a podcast like quality to the stories, which is not at all a detriment to the book, but rather a positive. Each story is self-contained, and none of them last longer than twenty minutes, making this particular book a very convenient read on a commute. Not that I think you'll be able to listen to just one, I certainly couldn't.
If you are looking for strong violence, or graphic sex or language, this isn't the book for you. This is not a hard-horror title, its title kind of says it all, but this does mean that it’s probably suitable for almost any age (though some of the stories might give more sensitive souls a few uneasy nights).
This is my first book from any of its creators, including Lisa Leslie (the narrator), but I imagine it will not be the last. Though the whole package is a little "light", both in running time as well as in tone, it is not written to make you run screaming into the night. Rather it is written as an old fashioned fireside creeper, a campfire tale, and Lisa Leslies narration serves well in this aim. At first I thought her style of narration ever so slightly mechanical, but I soon warmed to it, and thought that - perhaps - narrating such a broad range of stories in one book would offer its own unique challenge. After finishing the book, I found I rather liked her performance and seeing her name in the future will probably encourage a sale from me.
My Creepy Paranormal Story probably won't hit your favourite books of the year, but it will be an entertaining four or so hours of you time. I can easily imagine being in a car with my family on a long journey listening to these stories, sparking up conversations between each, encouraging us all to chip in with our own creepy tale.
In conclusion all I can say is this. Would I listen to another similar book from the same team? I certainly would, and with some enthusiasm at that.
What more could I want?
