About this listen

From a very early age, I loved the countryside as much as any garden and was fascinated by the life that I saw all around me from trees, wildflowers, birds, insects and mammals. In a sense, this book has been over 60 years in gestation. I have kept notebooks and journals ever since I could write, and I have drawn upon these as well as the events of the past year.

A year at home in the country with Monty Don - the UK's favourite gardener, dog owner, writer and broadcaster - on a personal journey through the natural year, season by season, month by month.

My Garden World by Monty Don is a celebration of every living creature that we all share. This year has given us the enforced opportunity to learn more about the fascinating natural world around us. Whether you live in the countryside or the town, Monty's observations and insights are relevant to each and every one of us. My Garden World is Monty Don's personal journey through the natural year, month by month, season by season, observed from the immediate world around him.

Wildlife is not something that we watch happening in remote and exotic parts of the world on our screens, but right here in our own back yards, and the more that we encourage it and learn to live with it, the more rewarding it becomes. If, in our own modest back yards, we can help preserve and treasure our natural world then we will make the world a better place - not just for ourselves but for every living creature.

Excellent. So interesting I had to buy the book to have as a future reference. Cried whilst listening to Nigel’s chapter.

Calmly compelling

What a lovely book. Monty Don has an incredibly wide knowledge of all things natural. He is very easy on the ear, a calm and unrushed narration and a heartfelt tribute to the wonderful Nigel ❤️

I couldn’t believe the wide knowledge of Monty Don. He is obviously so much more than a gardener. He is a poet, philosopher, naturalist and more. It was wonderful to hear his narration of this rather long book. I never got bored and only had a little weep at the end - partly because it was sad and partly because I had finished. I will listen again and I have bought the book to see the pictures and to look up bits using the index.

I have also learnt so much about the natural world while listening.

There were one or two things that annoyed me a little- the constant use of the Latin names and the fact that some parts were repeated . But I still loved the book and now I need to find another book but it won’t match up to Monty Don’s My Garden World

A wonderful listen

And yes … Nigel … the star of the show .. beautiful words Monty on that most treasured friend.

So complete with memories and observations it has been a joy to listen to My Garden World - so very much more than a countryman’s year. Monti Don’s reading of his book conveys completely the importance of the need to understand the balances within our world.
His appreciation is in every anecdote and story. Thank you Monti Don!

Simply a Joy

The format took me by surprise. Each month is broken into subtitles of the various birds, animals and plants. Monty's love of the countryside shines through and his experience brings it to life. Really enjoyed listening to this and will again.

Insightful journey through the year.
