Summary
The Sunday Times best seller!
Joan Collins has been a diarist from the age of 12, writing enthusiastically over the years. She dictated most of these entries in real time into a mini-tape recorder at the end of the day, and now she is spilling the beans - well, nearly all of them. What you will discover was written when Joan 'felt like it' between 1989 and 2009. Whether it is an encounter with a superstar or a member of the royal family, or her keen and honest insights into other celebrities at dinner parties and events, Joan is honest and unapologetic.
Taking us on a dazzling tour around the globe - from exclusive restaurants in Los Angeles to the glittering beaches of St Tropez, from dinner parties in London to galas in New York City - some of the characters you will meet here include Elton John, Princess Margaret, Donald Trump, Michael Caine, Princess Diana, Elizabeth Taylor, Rupert Everett, Roger Moore, Shirley MacLaine, Andrew Lloyd Webber and many more. Her diaries are intimate and witty, and they pull no punches, with no apologies to anyone mentioned in them!
Critic reviews
"These diaries are like their author - fabulously entertaining, impossibly glamorous, and utterly irresistible." (Piers Morgan)
"What a treat to delve into Joan Collins' diaries; a treat from start to finish." (Elizabeth Hurley)
"Wonderfully rich and mesmerising." (William Boyd)
"As brutal, withering and funny as you'd expect." (Julian Clary)

Not read by Dame Joan
Very disappointed it wasn’t read by JC as described. She reads the prologue. I often buy biographies on audible to hear the voice of the writer e.g. Miriam Margolyes, so My Unapologetic Diaries did lack something for me, despite being entertaining.

Very enjoyable
Glynis Barber does a wonderful job with the narration. And the stories of Joan's life are full of glamour and entertaining savagery. A great distraction through dull days.

loved it
I wasn't to sure if I'd engage with it being a diary, but I was totally sucked in. It felt like I was being spoken to directly and I was getting on my high horse now and then with what was going on and kept having to remind myself that it was an audio book and it was in the past . Brilliant 👌

I love Joan, what an amazing lady. You can’t survive in that industry if you aren’t tough. Inspirational.

Joan's Diaries
enjoyed listening, the little snippets of gossip of other Hollywood stars this was why I wanted to listen to this book. I did find some of it a bit repetitive however this was what was important to the author at the time. Glynis Barber did a good read & I could believe it was Joan herself in her younger days. Joan is one of a kind & one of the last of the golden years of Hollywood

I wonder if she realises...
If this book were written in the third person, you'd assume it was a hatchet job by a hack with a grudge.
Collins comes across throughout as an entitled, over-privileged, bitchy snob. The fact that this impression is conveyed by her own words, offered it would appear without apology, this volume is either remarkably candid or suggests a complete lack of self-awareness.
That doesn't mean it's an uninteresting book, and one has to admire Collins for holding her own against some nauseous Hollywood characters, publishers and fellow performers. Some friends' names pop up regularly, suggesting she is a loyal friend to those she likes. In this regard, Christopher Biggins appears far more than I expected!
Glynis Barber's narration really highlights Collin's less appealing characteristics, suggesting she may not be a big fan.

Great incite into JC's life. Greatly narrated and couldn't stop listening! I'm sure there's more that she could tell us!

Loved it!
She is fabulous. Her diaries are unapologetic and she’s to be adored for it. They really don’t make them like JC anymore.
